Perimenopause and menopause in Type 1

I haven’t had period in 3 months. My glucose is usually in very good control with hba1c levels between 6 and 6.5. The past few months have been impossible: more and more readings above 250, disrupted sleep, hot flashes, racing heart. Feels like panic attacks-- maybe it is sometimes and maybe not. Does anything help?

Of course ask your own doctor, but my gyno recommended I try Black Cohosh, and it helped me a little bit. It takes a while to get through this; you aren’t even considered to be “in menopause” until you haven’t had a period in 12 consecutive months. :grimacing:

Thanks so much for your suggestion. I’ll certainly look into it!

This is what happens when to me when my thyroid meds are not quite right. Might you have a thyroid issue?

One of my MDs did have me tested a year ago for thyroid issues and that test came out normal. However, due to a lot of pain I have been experiencing, my endocrinologist refrerred me to a rheumatologist whom I saw recently. He thinks i have osteoarthritis but had me take several blood tests to rule out any other inflammatory disease. Thank you for your feedback!

I had the same symptoms as you @Laurarose, every time I woke up with my heart pounding I thought it was a hypo, especially with all the sweating. and yep, panic attacks, wild blood sugar swings, emotional swings, skin weirdness. Fortunately I found the TuDiabetes community at this time.

Has anyone taken black cohash and noticed their blood sugar levels rise after taking it? I am spiking overnight and I’ve ruled out evening food sources. I’m starting to think it is the black cohash I take before bed.
