Does any other menopausal woman out there have upward spikes of BGLs when having hot flashes? Mine can go up as much as 100 points for no other apparent reason, and refuse to come down even when giving myself an adjustment dose of 2 units of fast-acting insulin - 1 unit for 50 pts over 150 BGL. (I use Lantus at bedtime and Novolog for food)
I do have to question myself ,“am I high/low/ok because I’m having a hot flash/sweat/heart palpitation?” all the time
welcome, and glad to find you!
Thanks for the welcome! This “blog thing” is new to me, but I’m finding it very nice to find others to communicate with about our common issues.
Glad to know I’m not the only one with seemingly unexplainable anomalies. Menopause has brought on a whole new set of them.
Take care.
I’m new to this stuff too, although I have been following some quilting blogs for some time…“lurk” around tudiabetes - I’ve found it to be very supportive, non-judgemental, informative, inspirational…I’ve laughed, cried, remembered the olden days…I also have been looking for women my age
I hadn’t noticed a specific time for the BG rises, but I had noticed my numbers were all over the place sometimes. Didn’t think to check that it could be in relation to the hot flushes!
I’m on HRT now - no more hot flushes (YAY) and less hormonal roller coaster stuff. Much nicer.
It’s no fun having those two things together is it :s
I have the heart palpitations which is confusing because it could be a low blood sugar, so I have to test a lot on the wild heart palp days (although I still have my period). They are really bad during the night during PMS, so I have to take the progesterone cream at bedtime to get at least 6 hours of sleep.
I spoke with a cert. diabetes educator today who said the heart palps weren’t due to the hormones, it was due to D’s effect on the heart. She is putting me on a bunch of supplements to help and hopes to get me off the progesterone cream which I think calms down the heart palps. But she says it increases insulin resistance…
About three months ago I had surprise heart palpitations during ovulation, really bad ones. My BS shot up to 389! Ack!
OH, yes and yes! I am 46yrs. old and have type1 for 16yrs. I have been perimenapausal for 6 years! You name it it happens…effect my D,very bad! I have been on prempro before(helped with hot flashes) off of it for the last 3 yrs. just get “warm” now off and on…but, prior to any spotting iI have my bs go HIGH and then I drop LOW as soon as I spot! HATE THIS! I have had blood work from a-z and all is fine with me and had uterine biopsy’s,etc. all is fine. Just so very annoying!
Girls, let’s all put our hands in the air and scream! We’re on a rollercoaster! EEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Wheeeee! Wait a minute, I thought roller coasters were supposed to be fun . . .
Yes! Thankful other people with diabetes that r going through menopause with high bS readings. I knew I wasn't alone. Mine r mainly at night when I sweat like a pig n my more sugar will be off the chain! That's with increasing my insulin n eating the same amount of carbs, fat etc. I am also on low dose Hormone therapy(HT) to keep my osteopenia from worsen too.
What r y'all doing about trying keep it down during the hot flashes?
Are the HT suppose to help with the flashes at night for maybe my dose is too low? I have diabetes over 38yrs n cannot afford my b/s to be this high in morning because of my 12yr post kidney transplant. Any advice would be nice.
My Endo had me increase my supper time insulin but when I have the hot flashes it don't help. I am in post menopause which I skipped pre so is this normal for diabetes type 1?
