Thanks for the warning Jay. And while I understand using an "unapproved" site for the sensor could in fact make me liable for any and all consequences, if I did have to use the tiny bit of real estate that is approved for this device, I can honestly say I would not be using it at all. I can only hope that I am not unfortunate enough to have a sensor break off.
Usually after 12h the line is quite straight (no zig-zag). This insertion took a little more time to do it but now it's quite good and it's on par with my glucometer. I'm glad I've experimented again.
I'm glad you did experiment as well. My experiment with the back of my left arm went very badly. I had placed the sensor too far back and it interferred with my sleeping and just about everything else. So after only 1 day I decided to remove it. Thank goodness I had already had 1 sensor replaced by Dexcom because it gave me some really funky readings and wasn't very accurate on day 5 and 6. In any case I surveyed potential sites and really tried to find one on my stomach that would be ok, but I just could not, so instead I put it vertically on my thigh just below where my jeans pocket is. I like where it is now, and it is comfortable. I had a really good night's sleep with no alarms, and so far it has been pretty close to the glucometer, so I would at least initially deem it a success.
Jesse has always worn it vertically on his arm for the last couple of years..
no problems...
he's never had a sensor break off in 3 years...
I'm really wondering if it's a wrong insertion site for me (upper thigh). It was perfect until the third day. I was impressed with my control and how my line was barely going above 120 but on the fourth day, after my breakfast, nothing happened. I calibrated 5 times and it was so off. It was only going straight. I called Dexcom this morning and they will replace that sensor. The girl couldn't say if it was the location or the sensor but I was swearing it would go right back on my stomach. I've quickly become dependant of that little machine.
That's a shame, I have had it on my upper thigh since Tuesday and it has been spot on my glucometer. And it is comfortable as well. I hope it doesn't crap out like yours has. I hated it on my stomach.
