Planes?

Hey Y'all. I've been on a Dexcom for over a week now and am packing for a trip. Can I really just bring the Seven System Sensor inserter apparatus with me in my bag? Actually 2 (bringing a back-up)! This is all a bit bulkier than my pump supplies.

just wear it...no problem. You may have to explain but they are used to them by now.

Thanks! I travel a lot and have my pump "to go" stuff always ready (even a back-up pump... learned that one the hard way) but having something new (Dexcom) with bigger supplies suddenly has me a wee bit nervous.

Yep. TSA has never asked me anything about any D supplies! I've flown with pump and dexcom supplies multiple times over the last 6 months with no issues. Have a safe trip!

Thanks!

I travel internationally about once a month and have never had a question about carrying on my Dex supplies. Safe travels,
Allen

Do you mean without checking the bag? Hmmmm. Checking it is for sure ok. I have taken it right through security though once. I've been told by Dex and Animus not to x-ray the actual pump and Dexcom. I've heard from others that this is not true, but they aren't going to be the ones paying for a new one, right?? lol. I have a letter from the doctor with me also just to cover me. Shouldn't be a problem unless you have more than 3 oz of liquid! Good luck and have fun!

If you have medications with Rx labels, the 3oz thing doesn't apply. I put all my meds (way too many) in a large plastic bag and hand it to the TSA folks - I've never had a problem. Back before I was on the pump, never even had a problem with large bags of needles. If you keep all your meds in one place and show them, you should be fine.

Do not check medical supplies, ever. TSA has been known to remove items from bags, and I've read a few bad stories about people finding out that most of their supplies were taken out and discarded after they landed in a foreign country with no easy access to more supplies. I've flown internationally and filled my carry-on with 3 months worth of pumping supplies. They've had a few questions (like why are you bringing so much) but never been given a hard time about it.

Oh wow! Good to know! I usually pack my pump tubing, reservoirs, etc. in my checked bag with a handful of spares in my carry-on. Guess I shouldn't be doing that! Thanks for the tip!

Last year I went to Korea with a 2 1/2 mos supply of Dexcom stuff, pump stuff, and an extra pump. It took up most of my carry on luggage space. My supplies caused no problem. I, however, got the full treatment of pat down, testing for explosives, etc because I didn't want to go through the full body scanner.

I've gotten the full pat down the last 6 flights. I just accept it now... In some ways, I was relieved that they started to look at pumps etc - who know's what could be in them? I have a couple of friends suggest Margauritas...

Hey y'all,

Just an update... I went through my normal contortionist moves with my pump going through TSA (and yes, i wear it through and 50% of the time i have no issue going through the metal detector). I've been on a pump since 2001 and have done the same thing for years (I travel A LOT), if I make it through the metal detector, then great... if not I announce I'm diabetic and on a pump, take it off and send it through the Xray. I was told last year that Animas doesn't approve this (pump going through the xray) however I travel with a back-up pump and did this for 10 years without knowing any better.

My question was actually about bringing back-up Dexcom sensor stuff with me. Let's face it, the inserter gizmo scares me when I look at it so I wondered about lugging 2 back ups in with my bag (I don't check my bags.... EVER). So, going through TSA on the first leg of my trip there was zero issue and my pump didn't set off the metal detector. Coming back it did set it off and they asked me to go through one of the newer full body scan machines. I did not offer to take off my pump since I was in tights and a dress and my pump was in the leg of the tights. It didn't seem like the best spot to hike up my dress and reach my hand down my tights so I went through the full body scan and I was good to go. No one gave a damn what was in my purse or luggage as I stood with my arms above my head in a dress that suddenly seemed a bit too short.

So, in summary, no one cared about my Dexcom stuff and the pump remained the star!

Thanks for the update! Glad no one gave you a hard time about the dex inserter. I agree that it looks awful! lol :)
