Proper steps to start new G7

I just started my second ever G7. It’s working fine, so far. But I am confused about the proper steps I should use to stop the former one and start the new one when I use the iPhone app for Tandem t:connect and the Dexcom G7 iPhone app as well (not the Dexcom receiver).

I thought the best way is to use one of the devices (the pump or the Dexcom iPhone app, but not a combination of both) for the entire process. I also thought the pump was the preferred device, and as long as the iPhone with the Dexcom app running in the background was close to me and the pump and the new G7, the Dexcom app would detect the new G7 on its own and connect to it by itself with no action needed by me at all, to enter the code in the Dexcom app and pair the sensor and pump in the Dexcom app, even though all that had been accomplished using the pump.

But today (only the 2nd time, as I said) I did have to start the sensor manually, enter the code manually, and pair the sensor and pump manually in the Dexcom G7 app in order for the sensor and associated data to be shown on the pump and on my phone in both the t:connect and Dexcom G7 apps.

What don’t I understand? What should I do next time?

That worked with the G6 because for 90 days or so you were using the same transmitter already paired with your devices.
With the G7, every new sensor is a new transmitter that has to be paired with each device separately.
One advantage is you can overlap two sensors (for me during the 12-hour grace period) and avoid some of the new sensor inaccurate readings.

Thank you! That makes perfect sense. As long as I didn’t do something wrong, I’m good to go.
