What is a good first pump for a 7 yrs??
I think all 3 of the pumps out there are good, a lot of it is personal choice.
We are now on the Omnipod (LOVE) and Dex (LOVE). We were previously on the Minimed Revel and the Minimed cgms.
I will say up front I think the Revel pump is excellent, but Minimed’s cgms has a lot of room for improvement compared to the Dex. Are you planning to cgms?
We switched to the Omnipod after trialing it. My daughter loves being tubeless (although she never complained about her tubing), loves the auto insertion and loves the remote (pdm). There is a feeling of freedom and also of being more like the other kids with the pod vs. a tubed pump, at least for my daughter. Your mileage may vary.
A remote would be high on my pump feature list. The Omnipod and the Ping both offer this. You will still be taking care of your child in the middle of the night for a while, most likely. At some point it begins to be weird for both of you when you come in her room and have to fumble around trying to feel for her pump in the dark. It is so much nicer to take care of this via a remote and not have to disturb your sleeping child.
I would definitely call the company reps and set up a trial of whatever pump(s) your are interested in. It’s hard to know what they are like until you actually wear them.
