Pump vs. Shots

Back to shots for the last year and A1C has improved. Pump just wasn’t for my son, at least right now, he was 15 then now 16. We tried the Cosmo. Requires a lot of attention to detail. He prefers shots over pump. It’s an individual choice. Diagnosed 3 years ago and shot therapy we’re doing now works for us. Humalog and Humalin shots 3 times a day (a.m., p.m. and nite time). I was disappointed when we switched, but he’s doing much better managing his numbers and he’s been much happier. Barbara

that’s great you know i have always had great control with shots, i have been more restrictive of “bad food” etc. and this has helped my a1c tremendously. My endo keeps trying to talk me into the pump, but i’m on 17 units, one needle a day and it just doesn’t seem like i need it; perhaps I should test it out like your son has, because as you say its an individual choice. I feel if i go on the pump i’ll cheat a little and stray away from my healthy, organic lifestyle because of the freedom with the pump… it just seems a little like a hassle, but to each their own right  glad he is doing good! it gives me hope to stay healthy on my shots in the long term

The only downfall to the pump also is it is more expensive. Most insurances only cover 80 % and the rest is on you. The pump companies will work with you on a payment plan. I suppose in hindsight I’m glad he tried it, but I was under the impression it was best thing on the market and that’s not necessarily true. I ended up donating it recently to Ipump, Inc. as it had a four-year warranty with two years left on it. At least someone will get a benefit from it.

Sounds like you’re doing just fine. I’m glad to hear it. I now advocate shots since we’ve done both. It’s definitely a personal choice/preference. B

Then that’s the one for him!

I prefer my pump. I’m sick and tired of poking myself and getting bruised. I haven’t had one bruised site since I started in April.

To each his own!

Like you and I said, to each his own. One shot a day is the cat’s meow! Good for you, girl. And, yes, you would be more tempted to blow away some days. I did that before I went on the pump, so it didn’t matter!

Keep up the good work!
