I have a Solo sample too but have never put it on. I would venture to guess it would stick similar to the Omni Pod. I have used the OmniPod before and my problem is not with getting it to stay on but getting it off after 3 days- Ouch!!!
Yeah this offer is something I have not heard from Medtronic (yet anyway) so I would look into it closely.
I know. I asked about a trade in offer. I also repeated my questions and I also asked if there are restrictions. Didnt necessarily get a clear answer.
Maybe when I get the brochure I will be able to contact the person directly.
I’ll betcha I misunderstood and the $500 goes toward a $6k pump. If anyone knows otherwise let me know.
Ok MossDog, if that’s the case I would still be paying say $2000 to $2500. Yes, maybe best to wait for patch pumps which will not be so expensive.Sad that I pay $870 per month for health insurance and they only pay 50% durable medical. At least my supplies are free.
Actually now that you mention it this IS the current promotion they are offering. They will give you the $500 towards your out of pocket expenses after the insurance has paid their share. Man you are in a tough spot If it were me I would try to hold out with an out of warranty pump for as long as possible but that is just me.
Good Luck!
Don’t ya hate it when you get a call on a Friday and miss the call?
Animas thinks they can get me a pump with trade in, from a different distributor through my HMO.
I dont think so, but maybe…
Minimed is researching the same thing…
So now am on pins and needles till Monday.
Ahhh that is GREAT news… I will keep my fingers crossed REALLY REALLY tight. It’s amazing what they can do just by going through a diff company that just gets their pump from the same original place. :o)))))) Try not to think about it and go garden or something ha ha
Thanks for the good thoughts. I should know in a couple days if my HMO even works with this distributor.
As for gardening, we are having close to 50 mph winds today.
I think any dirt in my yard has gone and blown over to Texas…LOL.
Giving up. Going to use what I have until everything is dead (except my Minimed 508).
After that, anyone who can work out a deal wins.
Except Omnipod…
What happened?
Well, first we really cant afford anything this summer since the dentist is getting all the money.
However, I’m not convincing anyone around my house that going back on shots is Not easy…
I would hate it.
I got the call from Animas saying they found another way to take a trade, but that supplier called me today and said “oh your pumps are 100 percent covered.” I told them to go look again, and they didnt bother to call and tell me I was right. duh. Animas didnt return my calls when I called the question the whole thing (after the message on Friday).
So, I have a new refurbished Pink Ping, and that is exactly what I would purchase anyway if I didnt go MM.
And I have a working 1200 plus.
Might as well not make waves in my household, keep what I have and hold on.
Maybe in a year or two, new things will be on the market.
It certainly seems to make more sense to pay for newer technology, especially if I have to pay fifty percent!
I see it the same way. I am going to keep mine (that I just had replaced for a minute problem lol) till the Vibe hits the market. I figure if anything goes wrong with my pump once out of waranty then insurance would get me a new one at that point. My insurance requires there be a problem and I can sort of understand that. I wonder how that will work with the sensor coverage if they are integrated. I hope insurances will come around more and cover these things. Test strips aren’t cheap either…
I really feel like writing my HMO and giving a nice comment that they ought to be providing better pump coverage and cgms. My endo said they dont give that up easily and he cant get it covered for many.
I’m kind of hoping the new patch pumps come out soon as I think I would like to try them.
Here’s hoping our refurbished pumps keep going and going…
No patch pump for me. I hated the Pod and not sure I’ll ever try anything like that again.
So many new pumps and types on the horizon and three CDE’s that I know locally are involved with the board of directors etc.
This one looks very very nice and they mention infusion sets so…

I hope things do change on the pump scene. I think right now the choices are rather limited.
The actual thing that would be on your body looks huge though… Not sure b/c the site doesn’t really show you anything as of dimentions and how it’s worn. I’ll keep an eye out and I agree with the options being very limited at the moment.
For me I’m just going to stick with the ping and see what is on the market once that one runs out as well.
Here is another that is on the horizon.
It’s a patch pump as well and I think it is Roche or whatever company just bought them up. I just know that I hated the Pod so much that I could not have a pump to stick on me that carries the reservoir. It’s too bulky and I just didn’t like it.
I wore the Solo demo around. Dumb me, I forgot to put an IV prep on and the thing didnt stick. Wondering if it would have if I had the tacky IV Prep going.
Yes, Roche bought it from a company out of Israel and recently wrote me to say 2012 is a likely date. Unlike the Omnipod, you can take the reservoir off (so it could go in my hot tub) and it doesnt die every three days.
The Jewel Pump is another on the horizon…
I will have to keep my eye on that. I did see that you can remove the reservoir AND you can bolus without remote with is HUGE as I forgot the PDM more than once and then your stuck.
I think I am going to do this.
Just got off the phone with the supplier they sent me to.
Animas told that person I was out of warranty now, and she sent papers for the doctor to sign.
I am not out of warranty (Animas do you listen to what people tell you or not?).
Anyway, she indicated my HMO works with Carecentrix Gentiva, and that relationship pretty much means there is no way a patient can make a trade in or get any money for an old pump.
She’s looking into the possibility of bypassing that, but doesnt think it will fly.
So, my HMO needs to know that patients often need assistance financially with pumps (especially at a fifty percent copay). I feel a letter coming on…
