I have been a diabetic since 1981 and using needles until six years ago then I started pumping. After moving and switching doctors, I have now put on about ten pounds-my A1c’s are coming down slowly, but here is the problem-I eat few carbs-maybe 60 a day, exercise EVERY day for 25 minutes on a Nordic Track machines and do 100 situps, yet i still gained the weight. I understand that when the type 1 is out of control, you are excreting the sugar through your urine and not gaining weight. When i was diagnosed, i had lost 15 pounds in two weeks because of the Type 1 finally showing up as they say. I don’t get it-i am exercising much more than before, and either I am takin gin too much insulin or whatever.I am 62 right now, in god shape, but not satisfied with what is going on for sure-so if my A1c keeps getting lower, I am afraid my weight will continue to clim but my Dr. told me this only happens in the very beginning. Any ideas? thanks
hmm sounds like a few factors, the more insulin you take in your body the more you gain weight, your metabolism could be slowing down as well. its hard i know! its hard to get rid of that extra few pounds when it seems like you’re doing everything, but the best thing to do is to stay healthy and active like you’re doing and see if you’re eating anything extra thats making you take more insulin, eat lotsa protein and veggies, and continue to stay active no matter what good luck
You might just be gaining some muscle. I know that 100 sit ups a day will definitely pack on the muscle. Remember, muscle weighs more than fat. Also, carbs aren’t the only thing that you should be looking at for weight loss. If your total caloric intake is greater that what is burned, then you’ll gain weight. I think I read somewhere that each carb contains something like 4 calories.
Hmm well about three months ago when this started, I had my docotr do a T4 uptake and TSH test and they all came in range so the thyroid is okay and metabolism is fine. I also increased my exercise time ont he Nordic Trak so I’ll see what esle happens but they have been changing the settings on my pump alot lately so it’s hard to tell what is causing it but it is driving me crazy. I only eat chicken, and tunasifh, no red meats and some cheese. Cereal for breakfast, Special K lo carb so maybe it is out of my control.thanks for the advice.
Umm yup amount of calories in has to be lower than the amount of calories burned-I’m still a chemist-but you are rgith about the muscle weighing more so maybe that is it-hard to tell though since the BMI factor doesn’t mean much if you are muscular-like Schwarzeneggar-his BMI would be throuhg the roof but he defnitely is in shape!!-oh well
