Question for Afrezza Users

I’m struggling to maintain my honeymoon with diet and thinking about giving Afrezza a try since my BG needs seem to require an insulin with very little tail to replace my 1st phase release. My question for experienced users is, if a meal raises my BG to 220 one day, but the exact same meal only raises my BG to 140 another day, will Afrezza be able to handle the inconsistencies?

It will be able to do so far better than anything else available. It will take some trial and error to put it to its best possible use for you-- just like anything else, but yes I’d recommend it.

Thanks Sam I see my doc next month, think I’ll try it if my insurance will cover it. Injectables are difficult for me, they hang around too long and cause lows.

I think Afrezza may be well suited to your intended use. Like Sam said, it will take some trial and error. A relatively short duration of action compared to injectable insulin will make using it easier for you. I’ve been using it for about 18 months now and I really like it. I use it mostly for corrections but I use it every day.

Yep Afrezza works great for that. I will be starting my 2nd try of it soon, and one thing it does do is minimize lows. It isnt a carb to insulin match so its very flexible unlike the normal novolog type insulin. I would say you’d be the perfect candidate for it. You dont have anything to lose by trying it.

We have been using over nine months and yes the short tail of Afrezza will be well suited for your needs. IMO it will be far superior to older RAA’s to deal with your inconsistent responses. You could always start with four units measure blood sugar in an hour and re-treat if necessary. 4u should be perfect for a 140 spike an a second 4u will take care of higher spike.

An unsubstantiated opinion not a fact is that some believe afrezza’s fast on fast off activity threat mimics the pancreas “could” help prolong your honeymoon period by preserving the residual pancreatic function you have left.

Based on our experience, I highly recommend it for your situation.

in regards to insurance, look @ my earlier post
Instead of you working through the hurdles, may be you can make them work for you. Win Win.
I will see how good they are in December, when my appointment comes up.

Since the tail is so short, you can inhale a smaller dose and correct 90 min later if needed. Much more forgiving and less worry especially if busy or traveling.
