Raw Foods, the cure fo type 1 diabetes?

So I’ve been reading some interesting postings and was wondering what the tudiabetes community thought? you tube how I cured my diabetes naturally

Of course not. Type 1 Diabetes involves the body no longer producing insulin. Most foods (unless they are meats or cheese products) have carbohydrates, and carbs=glucose. Insulin is the hormone that allows the glucose to enter the cells of the body (thus feeding them). If there is no insulin, the glucose does not get in the cell, and sits in the blood. The cells will starve, and the blood becomes saturated with glucose, which leads to all kinds of complications. Therefore it doesn’t matter what kind of food is eaten…BS will go up just the same. (BS= Blood Sugar). Insulin is also required for the fat storage process.

There is also the fact that the liver is constantly releasing glucagon, a form of glucose. Type 1 Diabetics need a constant ‘basal’ insulin to combat this. Basal insulin is released slowly over the day, in tiny increments, to combat the glucagon release. The result is that even if no food is consumed during the day, some insulin is still needed. Without any insulin, the cells begin starving, since the hormone that carries the glucose into the cells is not present; the body will begin to burn fat, and then muscle in a desperate attempt to feed itself. This process releases a byproduct that is very deadly in such large amounts, and the process is called Ketoacidosis. It’s basically blood poisoning, and if the state is not corrected with the reintroduction of basal insulin, death will eventually occur.

When treating for food eaten, Type 1 diabetics check out how many grams of carbohydrates are in that portion, and then use an Insulin to carb ratio to deal with the resulting BS spike. Personally I am on a one unit:10 grams carbs ratio.

Different foods have different nutritional values and Glycemic Index values, however, and natural foods always have lower carb values than processed foods, eg. carrots have a much lower carb value than gummi bears. In this instance, raw foods might be a healthier choice, but a Type 1 diabetic will always need insulin.

In summary: No, raw foods won’t cure Type 1 Diabetes. They may help a Type 2 diabetic, which is a condition involving insulin resistance (but the body still produces insulin).

Hope that helps!

Don’t let anyone tell you there isn’t a way to get off insulin. There is, we just haven’t found it yet. Some supposedly have. Google “Tree of Life”. That guy supposedly has, but haven’t heard from anyone who was cured by his method. They only say they have reduced the amount of insulin they use. Also there is a Chinese herbal supplement Yu Xiao San 8805 that is reported to work, too. I haven’t tried that one yet either.

There may be something to eating raw foods, that will help you immensely if you do decide to try that diet. It has helped me. It hasn’t gotten me off insulin though. Maybe its because I haven’t gone the whole 100% raw. This guy Sergei Boutenko supposedly did, but I am suspect about that, too. Maybe if you were to go raw right at diagnosis. I have yet to hear of anyone being on insulin, who was able to completely get off insulin therapy.

I still believe there is a natural answer, though. I don’t intend to give up hope!

Cheers!

Raw foods are only a cure for Type 1 if you consider death by DKA a cure.

A raw food diet may radically reduce your insulin needs in part because you are giving up a lot of high carb foods and in part because our bodies don’t extract as much nutrition from raw food. But Type 1s need insulin to live and raw food does nothing to provide that insulin which are bodies no longer produce.
