Remoting into Android to Control Omnipod 5?

Eric, can you send me a link to the Loop software you mentioned. I am hoping it is NOT the AAPS3 software as I am looking for an open source android app that can control the Onmipod Dash from my phone without all the complexity of AAPS3. I would be very grateful

Hi @Nigel_Ross,
I am not sure about the Android stuff. I did mine with an iPhone.

@BradP is a great resource for that. I think he did Android.

seems like everyone who is speaking about loop software is using an iphone…i still recommend trying to build the nightscout account 1st, then build the aaps app, but as long as you have the nightcout built, you could try a dash and download the pump control app…you’ll be able to bolus from your phone, but the only way to have small micro boluses and unannounced meals is to build the aaps app…they also have different companies now who will manage and maintain your nightscout account that may be worth it…the fees seem reasonable, usually $5-10 per month last time i checked…a heroku account on its own is $5 per month.

It isn’t necessary to have NightScout to use AndroidAPS, it’s just necessary to pass the built in exam - the school teachers won’t allow you to take the next part of the exam unless you have NightScout. After that it can be ignored.

AAPS itself does not require NightScout and, in fact, using it strikes me as dangerous; NightScout is fine as a log (though most US endos aren’t set up to use it) but as a part of AAPS it requires an internet connection[1] and that makes the loop something not a loop.

[1] it should be possible to build NightScout for Android; it’s just java, so it should be possible to build a nightscout for an indivdual 'phone, but it would probably require work to remove dependencies on the specific java implementation NS uses.
