hi guys, i use the Animas Ping with the Contact D infusion sets. i have noticed on occassion, that i end up with an itchiness under the site. twice i have had to change sites after only a day because of this itching. it leaves blisters and they pull off when i remove the set. it is only on the part with the cannula, not the detachable part. and the actual insertion point is not affected, just the skin beside it. i tried to upload a picture, but couldnt for some reason. i just wondered if this has happened to any of you and if so, what do you do about this? right now i am using a Tag-a-Derm patch, and i haven’t noticed any redness or itching.

Could be an allergy to the adhesive… I blister if I don’t use Bard or IV prep to protect the skin. Could be why you don’t have problems with the Tag-a-Derm patch
I used to get itchy but I don’t think I got blisters. I was told that it could be the IV prep wasn’t quite dry when I inserted the set…so I try to wait a little longer and make sure it is dry before insertion. It has helped a lot, still get a little itchy after 2nd day sometimes.
It has happened to me - and nothing really helped me EXCEPT changing my set every 48 hours - not the underdressings or the skin treatments. Those blisters really hurt. And if I leave it too long, I still get the itchyness - and sometimes, I get itchy after I’ve removed it and cleaned the spot - it’s usually the adhesive for me (have tried many, many sets) and I also have to use steel versus teflon. I’m fair and just have very sensitive skin.
I use a cortisone cream after removal and that helps. For healing sites, I use Arnica (homeopathic)
I react to most adhesives, and found that the application of Pepto Bismol or Maalox helps. I clean with alcohol, apply a thin layer of the Pepto or Maalox with a cotton ball, let it dry, and then insert my infusion set. My basal rates had to be reduced after starting use of the barrier . . . as my overall reactivity decreased.
