another quick question. For my Daughter who is 7, should I always use I.V. Prep’s and do you recommend using other products like Skin-Tac?
Hi,
We use Skin-Tac with the Cleo 90 infusion set as it won’t stay on her skin otherwise - won’t even peel off the set properly. When our daughter used the Animas Inset II, we didn’t use any kind of prep - the sets stayed on fine. At our pump training - no kind of skin cleaning/prep was recommended.
That’s a totally private decision. Some people need those products, others don’t. I used to use I.V. Prep. Then one day I ran out…and discovered the infusion sets actually stick better for me if I DON’T use I.V. Prep or any other prep besides a plain old alcohol pad.
I don’t need anything for my animas sets to stick. I use plain alcohol pads to clean the area. My dexcom transmitter needs help. Dexcom recommends using nothing but alcohol, so I do so. I put strips of opsite flexfix around the edges to hold them down.
Thanks for the replies
I use Skintac and then I use Minimed’s new IV3000 tegaderm film to cover the site. This is the only way I can get my sites to stay clean and last a decent amount of time. But I work out a lot and shower twice a day. I also sweat a lot, definitely more than the average person.
my one try with skin-tac was an utter disaster… I am not sure what I did, but it would not stick for anything. I wasted 3 infusion sets and ended up bruised and bloody afterwards. IV prep worked well for me, but I ran out and haven’t had any problems with plain-jane alcohol prep pads. plus they are cheaper and easy to acquire.
Are you having problems with the set staying on? Or are you more concerned with infection? My diabetes educator instructed me to simply take a shower so the area is clean and not worry about sterile. So far I’ve not had any problems with adhesion or infection.
