Merely a week has lapsed since my diagnosis and I find great hardship in sleeping. Is this expected? Could some benevolent soul impress any intelligence for a good sleep onto me?
It will happen trust me. You just have a million thoughts running through your head right now. Don't try to figure everything out. Post your questions to the group. I was diagnosed at the age of 2 and that was way before the internet and social media were even heard of, so I had No One to talk to. Take advantage of the 30,000 members here to talk through your situation. Good luck, Roger
Harry, it's very stressful. Like Roger says, it takes a while to get up to speed on the thing. try to relax and go to bed at the same time every night, maybe have a cup of hot herbal tea (chamomile).
One of my major problems SLEEP a lot of it is frm so many thoughts in your head. This will all quiet down. How are your Readings? You are doing just fine. Reed

try melatonin, nature's sleep, just have a snack of protein in case it drops you.
Your insomnia is a result of the shock of diagnosis. It's not a symptom of diabetes. Yes it is common, and yes it will get better over time. Lots of good advice already posted on how to deal with insomnia. In addition I'd suggest a lot of heavy exercise. You look fairly young in your profile pic, so you can probably handle 2 hours of exercise a day if you have time for it.
Another suggestion would be to focus on other interests and not spend all your time thinking about diabetes. Reading, movies, music, friends, video games, whatever you enjoy most.
Being informed CAN help.
Sure you have a lot going on in your head, but have you got the right information so that you're not afraid?
Knowing can lessen your stress.
Eating... Oh yeah... It's GREAT!
Now you get to learn to eat different.
Get outside yourself by doing service for others.
Eb is right - get yourself tired.
Get your room dark, turn off the TV, and go to sleep.
Good luck!
good for you finding the right kind of support 1 week in, those that KNOW here. Afew suggestions on sleep, read something rather boring or dry, lying down in bed and soon you will be fast asleep! or try some deep breathing or mantras just connect to the rise and fall of your belly slow your breath down maybe imagine yourself supported on a cloud and feel the deep knowing that all really is alright deep inside you will learn all you need to know to handle this thing but it will never touch the deeper content part of YOU. maybe say a mantra to stop your busy mind, breath in breath out, this moment, all is well what ever speaks to you. this is a challenging time, keep in mind those with so called charmed lives can be pretty arrogant. this diabetes stuff is soul building. of course at this early stage in the game you are probably thinking no way.. this sucks! of course it does but without acceptance you will not be able to move forward. give it time, one breath, one moment one day at time enjoying all the things you always loved, learn all you can and be responsible about your D but live your life! many blessings, amy
Amy i could not have said it better.
I am soothed by your kind words. Thank you all!
