Hey I was reading the thread yesterday where someone had talked with Dr Zion about the Smart Insulin. Does anyone have a general description or a link to a site where I can read up on it? It sounds interesting. Im just wondering if you can pump with it also…?
There would be no reason to pump smart insulin, since it would be injected 1x daily and automatically release insulin from some substrate based on blood glucose.
I saw something the other day where they plan on begining testing in people in India in like a yr or 2 and if trials go well, possibly having it available to the public within 5 years. So still looking at a bit of time.I’m just keeping my fingers crossed. if you google it you can find some info, but there isn’t much yet.
Merck are planning to acquire Smartcells.

I’ve still not heard any more about human trials.

the link above describes how it works. Basically an organic polymer binds the insulin up and makes it unavailable. At a predetermined Glucose level the polymer somehow becomes “permable” allowing insulin to be released. When glucose levels drop the polymer again changes back to its previous state binding up the insulin for use later.
Sounds promising, but not sure I would be willing to be a subject.
