Sudden Weight Loss?

The past few months I have been dropping weight ridiculously! I don’t know what’s going on and I’m a little freaked out since I have really done nothing to lose all this weight. Could this be diabetes related? I don’t have any other weird symptoms and I don’t feel sick or nauseous at all. I have had ketones a couple of times this month due to a funny pump, but that’s very unusual for me as well. My numbers, while not really the best, haven’t changed at all. If anything, they’ve been mostly on the lower side, with averages in the 120s as opposed to the 180s…

I haven’t been eating too much less…I do walk to work now as opposed to drive but it’s not a very long walk. I also tend to binge at every opportunity (I ate a big box of oreos last week and yet this week am suddenly fitting into a very old pair of size 0s? Weird!)

I know a there are several people on here who are trying to lose weight and are thinking “lucky her!” but honestly several years back I dealt with bulimia and it took a long time to recover and get back to a healthy weight…so to be back at the weight I was at when I was going through that is really weirding me out. Any ideas?

Ah, I forgot to mention I have hypothyroidism as well, so unless my meds for that are suddenly too much, I don’t think that’s it! Thanks though

How much weight have you lost? Could be your thyroid meds. Could be any number of things, including adrenals. Adrenal problems often co-exist with thyroid problems. People can have low adrenal function & then high before adrenals poop out. Best to call your doctor. Let us know. Hope all is fine.

Could be an issue with your thyroid meds or you could be developing celiac’s disease, a condition that is commonly seen in people with type 1 diabetes. For some people with celiac’s, the only symptom is weight loss (because the intestines are unable to absorb the nutrients that come through in food). From what I’ve been told, some folks who have t1d also see an increase in hypos (or lower blood sugar levels) at the onset of celiac’s, again because the body isn’t absorbing the carbs and other forms of energy going into it. I’d get tested for celiac’s.

Hmm interesting, I never thought of that. It’s probably been a good 20 pounds all together so far. Back in May I was 130, in August I was 120 and now I’m around 110. I keep having to buy new clothes and it’s driving me crazy!

I thought I had been last tested for celiacs back in early August, but now I’m thinking we might have decided to skip that test. I’ll ask my docs about that one.
