Every Saturday I end up having a low right before lunch. Today I was 95 before breakfast and 105 after, then 48 before lunch.
I have tried eating more protein with breakfast, eating more carbs for breakfast. Eating a snack mid morning and still I end up low every Saturday.
All of the other days of the week I tend to land around 90 before lunch.
After I eat lunch on Saturday I am back in range and usually stay there so I don't want to lower my units of Lantus as it would make me high the rest of the day.
I'm a MDIer and use Humalog with meals. However I don't take the humalog with breakfast as I do 75mins of cardio (exercise bike) right after I eat and if I take Humalog and exercise I drop like a rock.

hmmmmmm so are you saying you have your breakfast and take no insulin, do a heavy workout and then go low? do you do the workout during the week or just on weekends? does something different happen friday nite? say a few drinks that could be contributing to this? just speculating .. if the low if followed by the intense workout i would sip on some diluted or full strength gateraid, maybe G2 which is lower carb. your details about the workout would help and how many carbs you typically have for breakfast. let us know and we can help more! frustrating problem but is sounds like overall your control is pretty good just from your brief post.. always a work in progress. amy
When I've had that problem what I've done is to change my insulin to carb ratio. If your ratio is 10=1u try increasing it to 12=1u. Sometimes just a little tweaking will solve the problem.
I do the same work out everyday (yes 7 days a week) 75mins on my Exercise bike. I eat 30 carbs for breakfast because if I eat less I go low after my work out. This is what is frustrating because what is working 6 days out of the week isn't working on Saturday :-(. I don't drink. On Friday nights I have bible study which shouldn't have an effect on my blood sugars Saturday.
Do you workout on Saturday at the same time, or possibly 'sleep in' and workout a bit later ?
Do you do Lantus 1/day or a split dose ? If doing a split dose, you might be able to reduce just the morning dose only on Saturday.
On Saturday, what do you do after your workout ? I often go low doing housework or running errands, and usually turn down the basal on my pump. In your case on MDI, you may need to have more snacks.
it sounds like your body is telling your either more carbs or less insulin on saterdays. still not sure if you take novolog with your breakfast, if you dont then i would try more carbs, or try sipping on something during your workout! maybe your body is trying to tell you it would rather rest on saterday! that is an intense workout do do 7 days a week,or like megaminxX suggested doing housework or running errands burns carbs too. keep at it, sounds like you are very motivated to be so consistent with your workouts! i am to in a not quite so consistent manner, yoga and walking everyday is some sort of combination! best wishes! amy

For an hour of eercise, maybe try cutting the bolus amount by 50%. If the ratio works the rest of the time it's fine. Think Like a Pancreas and Pumping (and probably Using) Insulin are ome books that have suggestions for making these sorts of adjustments for exercising with more details and charts. There's a chart in TLAP that I've found very useful. I know I've seen it online but I haven't been able to find it for years so I just took a picture of it:
Thanks for the suggestions. I am MDI not on a pump. I've read TLAP which is why I eat so many carbs before I exercise. Someone in the chat room suggested that I might just be less stressed on Saturday mornings? I guess it kind of makes since. I usually just hang around home doing laundry, cleaning, reading and practicing. I do forget that stress has an impact on bs. Though I now wonder if that is the case why I wouldn't go low on Sunday too. Blah.
Do you have a sedentary job? I know that I come in and sit on my $## all day so on a day when I'm grocery shopping and running errands, cleaning house, doing laundry, etc., I burn lots more energy and that's when I go low.
Not really, I'm a teacher and on my feet pretty much all day.
