This is my first post… I joined because I feel like I need to connect with other Diabetics. I have been using a Minimed pump for about 13-14 years now, and I am considering a switch to the OmniPod. It seems really appealing… anyone have any input? What do you think? I am worried about the comfort - is it painful?
I need to get my AIC down… it’s above an 8 right now…
Welcome! I just started on the OmniPod about 6 weeks ago. I was also concerned with comfort - especially insertion. I was pleasantly surprised! The best I can describe the insertion process is kind of like a rubber band snap. You feel it, but it immediately doesn’t “hurt” anymore. (okay, so once and a while it is uncomfortable for a minute or two afterwards, but that is the exception to the rule).
It did take a little bit to get used to a pod being on my body and I am sure you are aware of some of the issues regarding the pods. However, once I got through the learning curve I haven’t had many issues at all. My failure rare of pods over the last 4 weeks is ZERO! I was on a pump over 10 years ago and would not do tubed again. I am very happy with my decision to go with the OmniPod. That being said, I know it’s not for everyone
So I guess I am trying to say - don’t let fear about the unknown pain stop you. I had similar concerns and it is much less painful and way easier than I thought it would be. Good luck!
You should check out the Omnipod group here on TuD. They are a great resource for information, such as tips and tricks, how to wear the pod for working out, as well as other discussions about batteries, carrying cases/methods, etc.
I pumped various MM versions for about 5 or 5 1/2 years, and made the switch to the pod just over 2 years ago. I’ve been very happy with the switch. Every pump has pros and cons, but for me, the convenience of the pod has been awesome.
Awesome. Thank you so much. The helpfulness and kindness found on this site is so overwhelming that it’s making me cry. I thought I was so alone for so long… thank you, again.
