T1D Awareness month or Diabetic Awareness?

I have been seeing around that this month is T1D awareness. Is it diabetic awareness or T1D awareness and is there a month for each type of diabetes?

November 14 is World Diabetes Day. Many cities, including my own recognize by putting blue lights around popular buildings, bridges, touristy stuffs, etc. The IDF says this for 2016 - “The theme of World Diabetes Day 2016 is Eyes on Diabetes. The year’s activities and materials will focus on promoting the importance of screening to ensure early diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and treatment to reduce the risk of serious complications.” Here is the IDF link where you can see what is happening all over the world: http://www.idf.org/wdd-index/

Hopefully you have been entering the Big Blue Test. DHF has grants and announced back in October the recipients here: https://forum.tudiabetes.org/t/diabetes-hands-foundation-announces-2016-big-blue-test-grant-recipients/56565

So it is Eyes on Diabetes, rather than awareness. Which is kind of the same thing.

Thank you for your reply. I was just a bit confused because I have seen a lot of T1D posts and so forth today so I thought maybe its basically for T1Ds.

You are welcome. We used to put a big blue circle around our avatars, and I still do that on my fb gig on the 14th. Your avatar already represents, and is lovely

It’s National Diabetes Awareness Month. You may be seeing a lot of posts on Twitter and facebook about JDRF’s “T1D Looks Like Me” campaign. JDRF of course is focused on type1. TuDiabetes and our program the BigBlueTest are to for all types of diabetes.

oh we had this some years ago. I think @askmanny had us doing it here. also I think @swisschocolate may know, or @Philmore

From what I understand,
November: Diabetes awareness month
Nov 14th: World Diabetes Day
Nov 1st: to kick diabetes awareness month off, Nov1st is Type1 Diabetes Day
Don’t know how official that is though.
No idea about a Type 2 Day though

Idk which avatar change you mean.
I always change it on my fb, haven’t yet though.
I just remember that one time where @DanP and I changed our avatar to protest @jrtpup’s censorship of cinnabons.
Not sure if we changed avatars for diabetes awareness on here though, as everyone should know about diabetes here, lol

I’m just thinking about when we lost @jrtpup lots of folks changed their avatar to the basket of puppies with the blue circle on it.

yeah that came to my mind as well…
coming up 3 years in January, how time flies…

May I ask why is The Big Blue Test not a banner on the site? Since we are taking walks down memory road, I remember when it was BIG and TuD made an easy go to on the front page. And why when I look at the Calendar the 14th of this month is totally blank.

If our own DOC doesn’t promote Eyes On Diabetes, how can we expect the world to see us?!?

You are totally right. There is no Type 2 Day. Type 1 kicks off diabetes awareness month. Im not gonna lie I feel a bit slighted here lol. Why are do T2s always seem to be the unfavorite child lol
