Tandem t:slim X2

I’ve been wearing my new pump for two days now so I’m in the learning curve. What surprised me was when waking this morning, my blood sugar was 126. Isn’t the Control IQ supposed to keep me in my target range, which is the lowest one possible. My pump was in the Sleep Mode. I need to research how Control IQ works but I thought maybe one of you might have a brief response as to what happened. I probably just don’t understand how it all works.

@Patticakes in the app does your basal look similar to this? C-IQ will lower basal and increase it as needed.

In mine there are sometimes max basal and other times less.

If yours is a straight line with your BG running too high that might mean a basal increase. If you do that increments of 0.1.

My basal rate is set to 1.4 per hour, but the actual delivery is 1 per hour. C-IQ does a great job of adjusting basal as needed, but the rate needs to be correct.

I hope this is helpful.

Increasing your basal rate during sleep will help. C-IQ will increase or decrease your basal within the limits of the algorithm. But, it has no ideal about the residual glucose releasing from each person during sleep. This is a trail and error process that you can try different basal rates to find out. Good luck!

Good idea. Thanks, Wayne.

You can only set tour t2 so low and sleep mode is the lowest. If you read through the chats, you will see ways to trick the algorithm. When I’m fasting and sleeping I can get it to level out at about 99 but it took e months to work that out. 126 is pretty average for the normal algorithm

There are 3 things that affect it, the bodyweight you entered in the pump, your carb ratio and your correction factor. All 3 will effect your sugars in a different way.

Don’t make drastic changes because it can be dangerous.
And check with ur doctor.
I have been pumping for almost 30 years so I’ve gotten pretty good at it but I still get surprised

We also have to remember that the “target range” as set by the algorithm -per ADA JDRF etc - is 70-180. My personal range is 70-140, and that’s what I use when uploading. Hopefully one day, we will be able to set our own targets and ranges

Yes I want to set my target range to 90, but it won’t let me. So my new mobi is set to 110 as was my T2. But I do use my own range of 60-150. And the pump allows that for alerts but still targets 110. I tweaked it and so far I’m hanging at 97, which is how the T2 worked too.

When Control-IQ technology predicts a glucose value less than or equal to 112.5 mg/dL, it will start to decrease basal insulin delivery and will stop basal insulin delivery if the predicted glucose value will be less than or equal to 70 mg/dL. I got this from the Tandem site https://bit.ly/3X2PL1S.

Yes but there are ways to get it a little lower

I have BIQ - and will hang on to it for as long as I can. I like to have my target set at 80 (because I am scolded about not losing enough weight fast enough) I only eat when I am at a fasting target (80) and hungry. I also make great use of the temp basal function which is lost with CIQ. When I have to change to the G7 and CIQ, I will run my pump on manual during the day and sleep mode at night. When I last spoke with Tandem, I mentioned that I am not the only person who has TITR goals and that perhaps the software etc for the CIQ/G7 could allow for a lower target.

I understand that they view “target” the same as A1C - in that 110 is the goal for overall T1D mgt. However, I use the word “target” as the end goal for corrections and meal boluses. Damn the English language!

I was under the assumption that biq was the same as running in sleep mode with CiQ.

Basal-IQ can’t adjust basal rates up and down at all. It’s simply an on/off switch. It stops insulin if you’re below 80 and turns it back on full strength as soon as it ticks upwards again, even if you’re still low.
