Thank you for the welcome

Thank you so much to everyone who welcomed me when I joined tudiabetes! It was definitely a pleasant surprise. Couldn't have come at a better time either as I'm really having trouble dealing with my diagnosis.

I was diagnosed with type II in May 2012 and did well on oral meds until September 2013 when my A1C started to rise. I was determined that I could "conquer" diabetes and this was a setback. The more I read and learned the more I was convinces that I was LADA, not type II. I was diagnosed by a general practioner and treated for the last year by a nurse practioner who was also a diabetes educator. I convinced the NP to test me for antibodies and results were positive for GAD and IA-2.

Now I'm trying to get in to see and endocrinologist and can't get an appointment for 3 months! And I work in a large health science center. Needless to say, I'm a bit discouraged and worried as my BG is up and down and not controlled much at all. I did go on Lantis but it's hard to adjust my dosage when I vary from 70 - 170 FBS.

Reading the many blogs on tudiabetes has really helped me to feel I'm not alone. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Kathy, we have some excellent resources for those with LADA here. I especially like this blog by Melitta, who knows a LOT about it

I think you might want to see what you can do to expedite seeing the endo. at the very least, call them and see if you can get on the cancellation list. Make sure you keep a good log of bgs and food, insulin, etc. let us know if you have any questions. Our founder Manny Hernandez is a LADA, as is Donna, Chairman of our Board of Directors for DHF.
