I’ve decided to keep record of my journey as I try and obtain a CGM system. I have heard from many, that the process is not easy, and I have a feeling this might take a bit of work to accomplish. That said I believe CGMS would help me manage my diabetes and my doctor said I’m a perfect candidate. I have been a diabetic for over 18 years, my A1C is always around 7.8 no matter what I do, seems like - which isn’t bad, but could always be better. I have noticed I have less awareness of when I go low. But overall I have no long term effects from diabetes and continue to be healthy and would like to stay that way.
And so the journey begins.
Tuesday May 5
Spoke with my endo and asked about CGMS. She reviewed my chart and she said I’m definitely a candidate and thought it would be great. She asked what insurance I had, I told her BCBS of Ks. A slight frown on her face followed. She said not to get my hopes up but to give Minimed a call to get things going.
Wednesday May 6th.
Gave Minimed a call and they said to call my insurance company, because after reviewing my pump information - they said my pump was still in warranty and was not set to expire till next April, and that would probably make it difficult for the insurance company to approve,
Next, I called the insurance company, I shared with her the information about my pump, she really wasn’t sure about that, and reviewed the policy information with me. It was easy to see she didn’t have any experience in what I was asking, but she was very helpful and provided me with the policy information. She was told that I should contact my doctor and ask them to send the insurance company a predetermination form. I am assuming that means a denial letter is next.
So… next. I gave my doctors office a call left a message and asked them to send the predetermination form into my insurance co. I’ve not heard back from them.
Next week… Call the Docs office back on Monday and see if any progress has been made.
I have a feeling I am going to spend a lot of time going around in circles. That is ok. I have been given lots of good advice to stay persistent, which is good, because I’m pretty good at persistent.

I will definitely keep everyone updated about my journey. Plus I thought documenting the journey is important when companies know you are keeping track of the entire process. Good luck to you!
