In 2 and 1/2 month I will try to get my medal for 50 years of fighting diabetes. Trouble is that I have to proof it. How can I? In those 50 years they all kicked the buckett or stopped living, which ever! Hope the hospital where I was in for two weeks is still existing and they may have records indicating I was a guest there. Anyone has some ideas on this problem?
A bit of an update on Miss Jones, remember the pest at the bridge club? I told her to read up on "ZEN" and learn something! With Zen it goes like this. I quote their teachings here so sit up and listen will you? LOL. They say.....Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk besides me, for the path is narrow. In fact JUST LEAVE ME ALONE! She has.....sofar!
That's all for today, could tell you I didn't sleep all night..... but if you did sleep, who cares?
I was in the same position. My mom and Dad are still alive though. I did have a few antiques that my mother gave me. I have an autographed book from Dr. Eliot P Joslin from 10-10-1959. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was 4 at the time. My new endo wrote a letter saying that I have had “D” since 1958. Did not have a problem.
Woooo! Zen is Powerful. I’ll have to keep that one in mind. LOL!
Well, you could ask but chances are, your medical files from back then are probably dust, as are mine. If you have anyone(Family/Wife/Friends/Cousins) who were around when you were dxd. and are alive now(with a memory), you can get them to write a letter for you saying when you were dxd. with Diabetes and any other information regarding your diagnosis, that they remember: Your symptoms, what meds., etc. Or if anyone has a photo of you with a date on it when you were younger, giving yourself a shot or other paperwork stating that you had, say a broken finger when you were 34 and couldn’t give your Insulin shot. Letters you may have written to someone mentioning your Diabetes, when you were younger, etc. You’d be surprised how many People keep old mail, postcards.
You’re always a ray of Sunshine JohnBen. Good Luck.
Hospital record of admission and diagnosis is the most clear-cut. If the hospital is still there this ought to be straightforward. If it’s not still physically there maybe it was absorbed into some other hospital.
50 years ago in small towns, hospital admissions and discharges were often recorded in the local newspapers. (Before HIPAA and all that, that’s for sure! In my hometown major diagnosis at time of admission was often but not always listed.) And these are probably on microfilm in the library of the town the hospital was at.
