There is a lot to consider when considering a pump

I find myself tetertotering, weighing in the pros and cons, liking the idea one minute completely overwhelmed the next. I'm just not quite sure what to do. My doctors feel I am dedicated and would do fine, but will I????

Do I want waterproof?

Can I be spontaneous?

What happens when I am at the pool or the beach on vacation?

I can only disconnect for one hour?

Do you still bolus in advance?

Will I need My Dexcom...I love it! But do not like idea of being wired to to many gadgets? But I just spent money on it and it gives me a lot of peace.

I flop around quite a bit when I sleep...

I do not want to gain weight, I already struggle...

The flexibility sounds amazing, I am a teacher and my students tend to come first...I miss lots of shots and the timing is never perfect.

Infection freaks me out.

I hate having to eat loads of food to cover my NPH peak for a workout, I drop low daily...I am over that.

5 SHOTS A DAY IS A ROYAL PAIN.

Thanks for letting me process out-loud...any personal advise and opinions are welcomed.

GO CARDINALS :0) Just thought I would toss that into the equation.

I have gone through the pros and cons more times than I count over the years. I get really interested to the point of deciding to make the doc appt and then the prospect of being constantly tethered kills it.

On paper, the benefits are clear and I have read enough from others to know that the initial learning curve will answer my concerns but living with that thing 24/7 is so unappealing.

I went from NPH to a pump and it was like night and day. I was amazed at how much less work it has been to keep things sailing along with a pump, compared to the constant "slot machine" with NPH.

I was not keen on the machine being plugged in all the time either but it took about a day to get used to it. I'd lost weight without my pump but my A1C went up. Since I got my pump, I've dropped about 40 or 50 more lbs. It does a much better job keeping track of stuff than I'd do on my own. I loathe logging.

THE PUMP WILL HELP THE UP & DOWN BG & YOU'LL GET USED TO IT IN NO TIME
DON'T WORRY...GET TRAINING & DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS FROM TRAINER OR/AND HERE AT TUDIABETES.GOOD LUCK.

I think you are over-thinking it a little bit. As far as bolusing before eating, it just depends on you. I always bolus after I eat unless i eat something like pizza or pasta.
