Your turn.
Things that increase my blood sugar…My BG will go up if I am just sitting watching TV.I will get up in the morning and test and will have a real good number. Two hours later I will test and my BG will have gone from 100 to 170…I cant figure it out,I did not eat. The most I did was drink a diet coke.Go figure??
Oatmeal
Eating , period …and I get it down again … Exercise, Exercise , Exercise … how I am looking forward to next A1C …
bananas. certain cereals, mostly those
popcorn,in anyway shape fashion or form, even air popped, and man i love the stuff!
I’m not crazy about popcorn but chips which I dont eat often can trigger high BGs
Trying to get customer service help from my insurance provider.
spaghetti (one of my fave foods)
Anything and everything I eat or drink (except my beloved diet coke).
Stress.
Exercise (goes down during, but then starts going up immediately after).
Life.
Poor math skills when it comes to carb counting.
Ever since I figured out my carb-to-insulin ratio for mornings I don’t exercise is 8 g to 1 unit (it’s 12g or 15g to 1 unit at other times of the day), I’ve had trouble. Apparently my liberal arts education didn’t include enough basic computation practice. And, unfortunately, the pump I use doesn’t have an on-board carb calculator. I definitely need a Remedial Diabetes Math Skills course!
Everything, now that I have super high insulin resistance.
Hi Brad:
That’s probably Dawn Phenomenom(DP) that you’re speaking of. My Brother’s were the same. Mine works the same way also. I will normally wake up with Good numbers but then my numbers will start rising about 40 minutes after I awaken even though I have eaten and drank nothing.
We are in the minority. With most People’s DP, their sugars start rising before they wake up. We are actually luckier that way since we are able to fix our number before it starts rising. I just calculate the units of Insulin(yours will be different) to counter-act the sugar level I awaken with and the carbs. that I KNOW, I will be consuming within the 4 hours of my Humalog run time. But you should make sure to eat something, even something if it’s something small. You have to experiment, perferrably on the week-end, when you’re not running or distracted by something else. Test often to see your number outcomes. Good Luck!
LMBO, I agree with this one:)
Pasta Which is bad for us Italians
any time we eat out. seriously. any time. I try managing with extended and combination boluses over different amounts of time, but I don’t think I ever ever get it right.
if I cook at home and am diligent about carb counting, timing my insulin bolus, weighing and measuring, and choosing all healthy ingredients, I do alright.
I hope I haven’t raised your bs…eeeeeeeeeeeeek! QUICK - don’t read this!! GO TEST!
Christina… I had the same problem until I discovered “Dreamfield’s” pastas. Now I can have a fulfilling portion of spaghetti or mac-n-cheese or lasagna. They make spaghetti, linguini, lasagna, elbow macaroni, rotini and penne. I hope this info helps you out. If your local market doesn’t carry it, I’m sure they will or you can order online from many sources. Of course, I am T2 and am not sure how pasta effects T1’s. I’m still pretty new to D and discover differences between T1 & T2 everyday reading these forums. Good Luck!
Popcorn :-((
I have the same experience as Sweeter and Melissa…oatmeal…and eating out. I think that restaurants must put in a lot of “fillers” in their foods to make them have better texture, mouth feel etc…but are pure carbs!
