My friends and I are taking a road trip to Washington DC (I’m from Ohio) and it’s about a six hour car ride. I was wondering what you guys think I should bring with me. Like snack for the car and things i should keep in my back pack for site seeing.
Thanks!
if you won’t be moving much for 6 hours, you may want to bring some carb-free food, like celery. And extra insulin if you aren’t on a pump.
Pack the basics! For diabetes, have a few pens (or vials + syringes) with you, something for lows, strips, meter, and all that. For road trips, I like to correct lows with glucose tabs and peanut butter crackes because I’m too prone to munch on other treats like fruity snacks or juices. But honestly, you don’t need to overpack for lows because you can buy foods to treat them just about anywhere. It never hurts when traveling to have a medic alert on you for emergencies.
The most important thing to have when you arrive is extra insulin. Keep back ups in a cool place in your hotel and have one on you with plenty of needle caps.
Beyond that, as far as I’m concerned, have a change of clothing and a camera and you’re set!
Make sure to bring a large purse. Most places in DC have a “no bag” rule, but they will let you bring in a purse with showing blood testing meter/pump/insulin…
My rule for travel is to bring about 1.5times what I need…
I’m planing on carrying a small back pack, but i didn’t know they don’t allow bag in some places… so now i guess i’ll be packing a purse that can fit in my back pack lol… actually i may be able to fit what i need in a small draw string bag (which i usually carry as a purse) hmm we’ll see! =]
thanks for the information! =D
That sounds like a plan!
