Hey everyone,
These gels are made with sugar polymers designed to be broken down slowly for sustained energy. When treating low blood sugar, you want something that works quick so using gels would probably be a bad idea.
When all else fails to be available, I’ve used gels, but as Kevin said they aren’t designed to be fast acting. OJ is my best low sugar friend. When I was a teen I used Karo syrup for overnight lows, but I would take WAY too much and I wasn’t focused enough to wake and check my sugar after.
In fact during that part of my life I would go a week without checking. Let’s just say I’ve had some awesome luck when it comes to diabetes. Unfortunately I missed out on High School English (all 4 years) and Algebra 2/Trigonometry as a result.
Smarties work pretty well. They don't melt and are mostly sugar. Also, they're small and can fit easily into a pocket.
Not gels, since I don't usally use them anyway, but electrolyte fluids (think "Gatorade", but lower-sugar and higher-tech). My Other Half uses Gatorade.
the only Gels that works for me is Honey stinger orginal it's all honey.
The flavored Honey Stingers have other stuff in them.
I use Skittles, Raisins, or Juice.
