Two New Glucose meters from Sanofi Aventis / Agamatrix

Two new meters are soon to be released by Sanofi Aventis with partnership from Agamatrix

The BGStar and.... the iBGStar (for Iphone/Ipod Touch)

http://www.bgstar.com/

The iBGstar is for the Iphone/Ipod touch
the BGstar is a meter similar to the Agamatrix Wavesense Jazz...

upon reading about it, it seems the meter is for those that have an IPhone. I have a droid so this bg meter wont work for me (as the site again talks about iphone)

This has been a longstanding problem with the FDA having to certify devices and operating systems, when theyd prefer it all to be propriatary… This is opening the gate…

See http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=medical-apps-regulation (Thanks to Amy T from Diabetesmine for the link explaining this)

I’ve wanted something to attach to my iPod Touch (and the iPhone if I go that route). I also have a Droid Incredible. The phone is great, but the underlying infrastructure isn’t as good as Apple. I’ve got a Dexcom and an OmniPod. Too many handhelds.

I’m OCD so I having too many handhelds is ok with me. I dont mind! It will keep me in order :). I’m not an apple fan. I use to work with Macs and it gave me the hate for apple

Im thinking once we see this for the iphone, it will become avalible, you might see other vendors come to bat with other devices… Was told it should work with the ipad/Ipod touch but cannot confirm it at this point…

So its self contained and transmits data to the ipod… Its something… and whose to say other apps cant access it… Just because your not running the meter in the ipod software does not mean its not useful…

Theres only one standalone meter that can do some of the stuff this does, which is the UltraSmart (and its pump attached brothers) (dated technology wise) in addition to the dated 1.0 sample size… 0.3, and 0.6 are common nowadays.

I do think this is a novel concept… and I do think it will open doors to more cell phone / meter technology… I can’t wait till it comes out, and I’ll do what I can do get one for my husband. He’s an iNut, and I’m sure he’ll appreciate it.

I love the idea. It’s great that it runs with or without the Ipod/Iphone, that way if your ipod/iphone battery dies, you can still test. It’s a great way to encourage people, especially teens, to test more often. They are constantly attached to these devices anyway, so it makes sense to make something that will encourage people to test often and let’s them see the results on something that they use all day. I know I’m rarely seen without my Ipod touch or ipad.

Ideally id love medical bluetooth to come to meters/pumps/pds/bolus remotes… Just wish the FDA would agree…

Agamatrix already has a design for a BT version of their Jazz meter. but alas it hasnt been released though it has passed 510k certification for sale

Roche has a BT enabled Pump and Meter/Bolus Calculator (Spirit Combo). also not avalible in the States…

I could see the Ipod as the data hub for diabetes devices but will have to see if the FDA ever allows it

The stub kinda detracts but at least they have a dock connector passthrough…
