When you're out of warranty, you are not getting an upgrade. You are just getting a new system. The upgrade program is for those of us who are still in warranty. We will pay $399 out of pocket (direct pay to Dexcom with no involvement of our insurance company).
Navigator is not available in the US any more. Is it available where you live? I agree that the non-rechargeable battery is a way to make sure that we are over the barrel as far as HAVING to replace it -- if pumps can be made with a 4 year life span, why not CGM receivers?
Yes, I was referring to the now defunct US Nav but I guess Abbott is considering re-entering the game (?).
I would love to know if the G4 transmitter could last 9-10 months if used half-time. Personally I can't afford the system on a full-time
basis, so would like to buy 1 transmitter and 14 sensors a year. I guess it depends on how well the battery can hold power after the 6 month mark. ?
I didn't get good accuracy with the Medtronic, either. And I have been very pleased with the 7+, even though I've only had it a month. And I JUST missed getting a free upgrade -- I got mine in Aug. (actually delivered end of Aug. or early Sept.) so I'll have to pay. Darn!! But I really need the accuracy in the low range, so I'm game. Can't take my money with me anyway. And I'll settle for as good as possible at the moment -- I'm not going to live to see perfection, ever, LOL!!
Apparently, there's a countdown clock in the receiver, because the rep warned me not to turn it on until I was ready to use it, which won't be until after I use up my 7+ sensors. So I somehow don't think you will be able to use it half time. :-(
Good to know. I can't be the only one who wants to use CGM part-time!
(I assume you meant transmitter)
I will be interesting to find out if the sensor of the G4 can be restarted to prolong the fixed period of days. There are strict rules coming from the catheter regulations about the duration. The manufacturer has to follow these regulations and at the same time he has to leave a loopwhole to prolong the duration to make it practical and affordable. Hopefully the G4 does not disappoint in this important aspect due to stricter FDA limitations.
G4 can be restarted.
Hi Holger, I've been using the G4 since early July (in UK) and have successfully re-started every sensor after the initial 7 day period. They have all lasted between 2-4 weeks.
My thanks to you and Helmut. That is great news.
Hi Don, As the transmitter can't be turned off, the inbuilt battery will still gradually drain even when not in use. My G4 is into its 4th month but, ever the optimist, I'm hoping that the 6 month guarantee is a conservative estimate and it will last a lot longer! The sensors have all lasted between 2-4 weeks so far which helps financially.
Did you use the 7+? If so, how is the accuracy of the G4 compared to the old system? So happy to hear it can be re-started!
Sorry Joyce, I can't compare as I didn't use the 7+.
Hooray!
As hard as it is, I've decided to be patient...I'm eligible for an upgrade on November 23 (when the warranty on my current Dex runs out). It seems like a lifetime but it's worth it to get the insurance coverage.
I look forward to following my Dexcom User friends to learn about your "trials and tribulations."
Does anyone know whether the new sensors will work with 7+ transmitter and receiver?
In other words, I have two 7+ units, plus a brand new one still in the box, and will be getting the new G4 in December. So should I hold on to the 7+ stuff as a backup (after all my 7+ sensors are gone), or throw it all out in the garbage?
G4 and 7+ are totally incompatible. You need everything G4 in order to use G4.
OK thanks. I asked my rep if I should send them back my 7+ that I just received last month, and she said I could hold on to it as a backup. Guess she doesn't know it will be no good as a backup?
What to do with all my 7+ gear? Throw it on the trash? Try to bring to a recycle center?
I was told to keep it as back up or donate it. They don't want it back cause they can't do anything with it. Guess it's time to go to ebay!
Wonder why they are telling people to keep it as backup? LOL I was wondering about eBay too. I would love to donate it, but don't know where to start. Any ideas anyone?
