I have a diabetic friend who lost the gray transmitter chip that goes into the dex doc (that clear sticky piece). Upon my friend telling me this, I said 'oh boy...'. "I think that is the most expensive part in the system." "What is the plan?" I asked. My friend did not know at the time. So, I turn to you, the DOC, and ask a) have you ever lost your transmitter and b) if so, have you had to call dexcom and pay for a replacement? Let me know. Thank you!
My son was swimming in the Gulf and the sensor fell off - along with the transmitter. They replaced it! Another time we did "catch" it as it was almost off. I was relieved because I don't know how often you can play that card. I leave the transmitter clipped into the sensor and stick that to the receiver when not in use.
I lost mine in 2010, and Dexcom allowed me to order one for about half price, but only because it was the first time that had happened to me. It may have been full price if I lost it again. Now it is two years later, so the procedure may have changed.
What was the cost? Even at 1/2 price?
It is difficult to remember now, but I believe it cost me a little over $300 for the replacement. So it must have cost $600 for a new transmitter at full price.
I called Dexcom recently to ask how much the separate parts cost (for insurance purposes): the whole kit-$1448, the trasmitter-$799, and the receiver-$649.

I, luckily, have not lost a transmitter but I did lose a receiver. Because I had used the receiver over a year and it was "out of warranty", I think my insurance company covered it. However, I might have paid 1/2 price for a replacement too which is the replacement policy as others have said. (I now have a spare transmitter because it was still on my body.
I had to order a replacement a few months ago. If its still in warranty and the first time they lost it, its $199 as a one time offer.
