@Sam_I_am1, I have a Medtronic 670 and just ordered the 780, Can’t wait to get started.
The main attraction for the Medtronic pump for me would be easier infusion set changes vs. what I’m hearing about the T-Slim, which sounds more complicated than it should be. Hope you love your new pump!
The cartridge change is different, but easy once you get used to it. The extra feature of the cartridge is a feature that prevents a pump malfunction to over deliver.
Hi there, this review seems to be for the Medtronic 670G, an outdated pump we all agree was not very good. Today, it makes more sense to compare the current pumps on the market to make decisions: the Tandem T-Slim with Dexcom G7 that should be approved for use with the T-Slim very soon and the new Medtronic 780G with the Guardian 4 CGM.
I started on the Medtronic Minimed 780G pump and cgm last fall. I was using an older Medtronic pump with the Dexcom cgm because the FDA had not yet approved the 780G and cgm. I worked with the local Medtronic rep (granted they are sales people but very, very knowledgeable) to get approval from Medicare after my doctor prescribed the pump. There are pages and pages of training videos on the Medtronic site (you could go there to look at some of them), and I had two video sessions with the Medtronic trainer. You don’t have to go it alone! I lowered my A1C in the first 3 months. Guess I’m sold on Medtronic! Terry
I have been T!D for 58yrs and started on Medtronic pumps in 1983 til 2018 then switched to Tandem TSlim X2 pump to be able to add a CGM covered by medicare, which I desperately needed. My A1c’s have never been better on tandem with ControlIQ & Dexcom. It’s so amazing to have Dexcom G6 or G7 sending my blood sugars to my pump every 5 minutes and the pump is able to tell if I’m trending low or high according to the parameters I set in the pump. It’s so nice to be able to sleep at night. I can actually walk through a store or take a walk and my sugar doesn’t drop immediately now. The pump will turn off if your sugar is dropping too low and start again as your blood sugar comes up to the normal range. It will also prompt me for sugars rising and increase basal rate or bolus. It keeps track of insulin on board so you’re not stacking insulin. ControlIQ software has really been a game-changer for me since I’ve always been very brittle and my sugars change rapidly. It actually gives me better control. The insulin pump in general saved my vision & kidneys, which multiple shot combinations could never do for me. With the CGM, no more 12-20 finger sticks per day and at least 6 shots/day even though I have something attached to me It’s very easy to learn & you’ll have more control. You can also put the TConnect app on your phone & see your blood sugar with trends, basal rate, time in range. Certain newer phones allow you to bolus from your phone. Good luck with your decision!
