For us it is the calculation that there is still IOB showing on the pump sometimes up to 1/2 hr AFTER our Duration of Insulin Action..
If we do a normal bolus in units then its fine. If we use EZ carb it doesn't use the 3 hr DIA..
Not a good video but Vibe IOB error
Thanks for that Prisoner. I phoned Animas last week & had another long discussion about this. Initially they claimed there was no record of me requesting the report on my 2nd faulty Vibe, returned 2 months’ ago, and that it takes up to 2 months to test them anyway. I insisted I’d emphatically made several requests for a report upon which she suddenly found the ref to it I also insisted it be looked into as a systemic problem, particularly in view of the fact that not only had I had 3 Vibes with the same fault, but that others have found this too. She said she had registered everything I said and a superior would call me back but not that same day. I’m still waiting…no report and no follow up phone call yet nearly a week later…NOT impressed!
Maybe I’m being a little impatient but I did not get the impression they were taking this seriously enough. I wonder how long to wait before phoning back?
Oh, and I also said there was no point in me returning my 3rd faulty Vibe as I’d probably be sent a 4th one with exactly the same IOB fault! Unless they could guarantee I wouldn’t (no response).
I don't think its one or two pumps with the problem. Its either the whole software setup or one batch of pumps with the software problem. Many people can't check because they never last as long as their DIA without another bolus' in the meantime. Our supplier is denying a problem at the moment.
Yup I agree and they weren’t entertaining this possibility when I spoke with them!
A lot of pumps will always give you 100% of the carb bolus if your bg is at or over target. It will only subtract IOB for carbs if your bg is below your target range. The pump did subtract 100% of the correction dose because you had more IOB than the estimated correction.
This looks right to me according to how I understand how Animas calculates the bolus dose in the United States. Keep in mind we don't have the Vibe yet though, I'm using the Ping.
I've noticed that if I have say a correction dose (no food), and a couple of hours' later I eat because my BG is now too low, that the Vibe will still say I need the insulin for the carb! This is despite it being obvious that my BG will be going even lower and so I need the carbs just to stay afloat. I think this is wrong and shouldn't happen. Fair enough if you have had a food bolus and then a couple of hours' later your BG is low or on the low end of normal, as the IOB or remaining insulin being used, is possibly going to be matched by the carb absorption (obviously depends on what sort of GI your food/meal was). But if it was purely a correction dose on a high BG, then clearly once it's reached normal or low, and you still have IOB, then BG will continue to drop, and you will go hypo - so the pump at this stage should not be recommending a bolus to match your carbs about to be eaten.
I sort of assumed that all pumps do this though, annoying as it is. You just have to have your senses about you (even with low BG!) and over-ride the recommended bolus.
But this wasn't the issue my original post was about anyway! As Prisoner has said, it's that you set in DIA as X amount of hours, and yet the Vibe is still showing you have IOB X + 1/2 hour, or X + 1 hour later!!!!!! Should not be happening. And with my 3 pumps X + 1 hour 40 mins' later, hmph.
This nothing about how much is given for a bolus. It is that we have set our DIA at 3 hours, which means that after 3 hours we want the pump to show no IOB.
