Victoza and Metformin for T-2's

I have a question to the group.

Has anyone noticed how effective Victoza is with changes in your dosage with Metformin? In addition have you noticed this over time while on Victoza and Metformin together.

I noticed my morning fasting readings dropping and had to adjust my Metformin dosage to prevent some uncomfortable lows during the night. This has happened to me over the last month.

I am a Dr B low carber, loosing weight, so I am getting better insulin usage/uptake.

Thanks

Hi Pauly, I’m not on Metformin with Victoza but congrats!

I was wondering the other day why I have not had to adjust my insulin. I have been on Victoza for a little over 3 months now. I have lost about 20 pounds, and brought my numbers down to darn near perfect. 85-90 in the AM and nothing higher than a 130 post prandial. However, I thought, and was warned by my endo that I would have to probably adjust my insulin as the weight came off and the Victoza built up in my system. Not happening here. :frowning:

Hey Samantha, Glad to hear you are getting great numbers. I am making better use of my own insulin with the weight loss I presume and the Met is not as needed in the past as before. I still take 1.2 each day. I have been taking a carb at night and that has helped.

It is something you have to watch though and agree with your Endo. As you loose more weight you will be become less IR. Hopefully you will be able to reduce your insulin requirements then.

Hi Pauly:

I’m on Metformin, Glyburide, Actose and Victoza (1.8 for about a week now). No side effects but no weight loss and decrease in appetite either :frowning: I totally agree with you about having lower morning #. I’ve always had high morning #s (in the 160s) I’ve tried Novolog 70/30 and it did nothing to my morning. Now being on victoza, my highest fasting morning is 147, nothing pass that. I woke up sick sweaty and shaky 2 nights ago, checked and it was 40. no idea why it dropped so low during the night but I’d say victoza helped a lot for my morning.

Hi Charmsy. I had problems for awhile with lows during the night where I would wake up sweating. I ate something and that cured it. I was in the 60’s so yes I was feeling a hypo. I eat something before bed now and that helps.

I am on the 1.2 dose and have not raised it. It does take awhile for you to notice your appetite decreasing so give it some time. Although some people I hear dont respond to it as well.

Let me know a month from now how its going. Nice to meet you too.

I have lost almost 100 pounds on this stuff! all new clothes. LOL
