I'm ready to ask my doc about Victoza. Has anyone tried it, or heard anything about it? I'm not looking at it as a diet med, doing fine without having to add meds in for that. But, my numbers are going up again, without any explanation like food, lack of exercise, just up. I've asked about insulin, and other med changes, but no luck on that end. And don't need to belabor that discussion again. Just wondering about Victoza.
I used both Byetta and Victoza. While they didn't help me, I've heard many people who had wonderful success with them. Both of the medications work by helping to amplify the signaling to your pancreas when you eat. Victoza is injected, once a day. It also is thought to make you feel full and eat less, thus leading to some weight loss. The major side effect is nausea, but I never had problems. There is actually a Victoza group which has lots of information that you should really join. The members there should be very helpful in answering questions.
I have tried both too. I better success with Byetta. However Byetta lasted for about a year of use then my body got use to it. In the beginning it would drop my BS levels and curtailed my eating. Later on it would drop my BS levels but it wouldn't curtail my eating. It would make the most delectable chocolate appear uninviting someone. The biggest thing for me was the nausea. It would come and go. It would take about 45 minutes after injection to work. You feel the change come over you that would make food seem horrible to eat. Sometimes the nausea would accompany that. When that happens it was normally about 2 hours before I felt better.
Victoza was a waste of time. It don't know what it did for me.
My experiences are pretty much the same as the others. I used both drugs first Byetta then Victoza. Byetta work well for me in the beginning but after a year it stopped. I was switched to Victoza when the Byetta stopped working but it never really work for me. I blame this not on the Victoza but on the fact that it is a drug in the same class.
I experienced very little of the stomach related side effect but I know some are unable to tolerate it. My brother had to discontinue it for that reason.
Like Brian says there is a Victoza users group. Here is a link if you need it. Victoza Users
