You all may have thought of this already , but for the ones that have not maybe you can use this idea .My mom was trying to think of something fast & easy to have when I get low . What she came up with was the little black bottles that the one touch strips come in . They hold 15 grams of sugar ,when I need the whole 15 i just pour it in , or sometimes just half. If I go ride my bike I can just put a couple in my pocket . Just thought it might help someone . We keep them every where ,in the car , by the bed, kitchen . I am 13 & I think the kids would like it better than the gl.tabs. It also works fast, till you can get some food in you. If you have different ideas let me know maybe I will like one better
i drink 1 juicy juice drink box…100% juice, lots of different flavors. the only draw back is that they aren’t very compact. when i was your age i would eat lifesavers. i would chew them instead of suck on them but i can imagine that’s not very good on the teeth!!
I carry 2 or 3 packets of fruit snacks – i can shove the contents of one packet in my mouth at one time if I want, and it works pretty well. One packet is 19 grams of carb. These are the ones I buy: http://www.welchs.com/products/food-and-snacks/fruit-snacks/fruit-snacks
Tyler- that is a great idea! I am always trying to figure out ways to reuse those bottles. There was another discussion on here about reusing the insulin vials for crafts, too, that your mom might like!
I’m gonna try this one! I’m terrible at keeping stuff on me- good thing I’ve got a few bucks in my pocket to hit up a convenience store! haha. Working in the city has some perks.
I use the snack size packets of NECCO’s - which I buy during the Halloween season - each pack is about 13 carbs & 2 fit nicely in my pocket - I keep them by my bedside & a few extra in the car & in my purse (besides the 2 that are always in my pocket) - I don’t like the gl tabs & could never force myself to eat them when I really needed them. I also try to keep snack pack size peanut butter M&M’s around if I need something a little more long lasting - but they don’t work well in your pocket - my only problem is keeping my younger grand children from eating the supplies that are stashed around the house
If I am at home & close to the kitchen I will use Juice as I only drink it when I am low. I don’t usually recognize lows till I am in the 50’s or 60’s - so I need something with me even if I am at home - though my CGMS will usually catch it sooner & give me more options.
Tootsie Pops, 15 grams each… I buy the box at Costco, and it seems to make a low a bit more pleasant if I get to have one. I only eat them when I’m low, though. I have also resisted having a gl tab because of the yukky taste, so the Tootsie Pops seems to work better for me.
Do you clean the bottles well? I believe they are lined with a chemical to protect the strips, that may not be good to digest. It sounds like a great idea if it is safe.
