Well... that's a first

Well this was interesting to say the least and an unwelcome interruption to studying. Easier to blog with high BG than it is to study

"Just had a first w/ my pump. My infusion site completely clotted off. It was a new site as of 0600 today too. My bg started to rapidly spike w/o any response to infused insulin, so I figured it was (another) bad site. Pulled it out and the ENTIRE 13 mm canula was..."

Honey, I have had that to happen, and it is really frustrating to have to change the set out. I have had to do that Twice today.. Ripped it out while asleep last , did not hear the CGM howling, and arose to a bg of 396. Changed the set out, bolussed ,bolussed, bolussed and then the second set had a crimped cannula. Have not been under 230 all day, and I have only eaten a lettuce and olive oil salad, drinking a lot of water...And of course I have a ton of things to do today that are hard to have the energy to do when one is high..but that is a day of diabetes. gping tonbthe pharmavy buy a 6-pack of half-cc syringrs ( yes, I had run out!!). and do the injection thing if I am still over 200. Then, Hopefully I will not experience a crash while I am outside putting up the Christmas lights. I . cannot calibrate the CGMS when the blood sugars are high or unstable, which is going to be my calling card for today..but alas"This, too shall pass"

SuFu, regarding the advice you received in the blog; Most people do not know, nor understand everything that diabetics have to do to stay in range. But I assume they do not know because they really do not HAVE to.Most of the unhelpful comments are made out of ignorance and the fact that YDMV.( YOur Diabetes MAY VARY. Well, I'm out and off to more exciting blood glucose testing (lol)

God Bless,
Brunetta

I use the 13 mm Sils like you but haven't had that happen with those other than some blood on the adhesive. Why are you not changing at the end of three days? It sounded like you leave them in longer. It does happen some times but it shouldn't stop you from using those sets.

I use the 13 mm as well. I usually go 4 days on a site unless it starts to get inflamed. They are too expensive to change any sooner than that on our family budget (less than $20,000 of student loan money for a family of 4 for the entire year). The sets work fine, this is the first time I've had one clot off in the 10 months I've been on the pump.

I agree about the YDMV issue. I don't know which comment you're referring too, but I agree. Everyone has their own range to sit in and thankfully mine is lower than higher.
