What did you have for breakfast this morning?

T1 with insulin resistance in the morning so today was 1 soft boiled egg, 2 sausage links and one slice of wheat bread with margarine. 5 units to cover it.
Other days I might have one eggo waffle with peanut butter and spreadable fruit.
And of course a big glass of water, yum.

I type with oneARTHUR RIT IC finger that should be 160 calories.

I had yoghurt–19g. I was 89 just before breakfast, took 2 units novolog, and am back down to 89 2 and a half hours later.

I split my Levimir 3 way

I had a 3oz pork sausage pattie

  • 5 pieces of bacon
  • 3 eggs, over-medium, fried in the bacon grease
  • coffee w/2 ounces of grass-fed heavy cream

coffee and cream. No food…usually don’t eat breakfast. If I do it is hardboiled egg or cheese stick. No appetite in the AM  Make up for it at lunch.

Dang, certainly not as extravegant as your grub.
4 poached eggs
1/4 cup blueberries.
Coffee.
Yummy, though!

Woke up with an unsual low of 53-ate 3 BD tablets.

Then went to my normal food rountine before 6 AM spin, a high fiber choco chip Eggo waffle (15 gm - 5 gm fiber) + small plum (~10 gm)= 20 grams + 1/2 teaspoon peanut butter.

BG 130 after exercise with insulin on board (expected to go up high w/ the low plus exercise, but pleasantly surprised), so ate 2 small peanut butter crackers and will drink SF iced coffee w/ milk the rest of the morning.

Lynne - Keep in mind that many newly diagnosed T1s still have some percentage of native insulin production intact. I remember having a much easier time controlling my numbers back then. Every body is different and each one of us need to solve our own puzzle. Good luck.

Ah, I see. I think I remember your insulin use has gone up a bit from the teeny tiny place it started so maybe your ISF has too. If it were me, I’d wait until I was significantly high like say 250 and then try one unit. Even at 1:100 it would still only bring you to 150. But that’s me, I know you’re more comfortable waiting for the doctor.

Your needles are probably too long. There are some very very short pen needles out there which minimize the bruising.

You shouldn’t have track marks. I had bad bruising with pens, but never have this with syringes. Trick with pens is not to pinch up skin. I use small, narrow needles–31 gauge, 5/16" length. Get your doc or CDE to show you how to inject properly. Try to use more injection sites–top & bottom of butt, outer thighs.

Lynne,

Arms are really difficult. Impossible to pinch up fat with one hand & shoot at the same time with the same hand. You have to smoosh up your arm against something & you don’t have any extra fat. Easy to hit muscle on arms & that hurts! Sometimes I have bruising if I use the tops of my legs, but not on sides of my thighs. Pinching up enough skin should avoid bruising, but some people shoot straight in with very short needles.

Perfect lunch reading! Doesn’t get any better than that! Are you doing dinner bolus yet?

I do the pretzel twist for upper & lower butt area.

Yes. Not eating causes a continuation of the dawn phenomenon. Learned this the hard way. I eat as soon as I can after waking, which wasn’t easy because I’m not a breakfast person. Guess I am now:)

Pretzel flexibility is handy for injections:)

I ate a small bowl of yoghurt with a bit of muesli in it. And a cup of tea. That is my usual breakfast, even in the weekends. Tea can also be coffee or sometimes cappuccino.

I am really amazed by the amount of food other people have for breakfast.

I even amaze myself at how much I eat for breakfast but it holds me until around 3 in the afternoon.
