Well for me, Tudiabetes has helped me meet other diabetics from all over the world (and I may get to see some next month in Spain - whoo! whoo!). Before I ever started working at Diabetes1.org back in 2008 as a diabetic mentor - I knew very few diabetics and very little about the Internet. Most of my friends knew I had it, but never really asked much about it, except when they needed advise about diabetes. That was it. I had no D-friends to compare our ups/downs with, etc. Then along came this site (I like to affectionately call it the “playground” where no one throws sand in each others faces) that I found thru’ You Tube of One Happy Diabetic video when I was looking for help on insulin pumping - since I’m self taught on using my pump. I’ve never looked back since then - it’s my comfy chair to come to - when I want to see who needs some help today - or my own questions answered - just a laugh - or whatever!!!
How can we NOT care about you? Anyone who loves cats has to be a cool person!

Hi Miss Kitka. I love your comments on the pet groups. That aside, I have found TuDiabetes to be a caring and inclusive site, which has been extremely important to me as well. Best luck from a dog (and cat) person.
It isn’t that they’d have to get paid for it; they’re worn out after the type of practice they have to conduct. When a physician gets home, he/she’s zonked.
It’s also that they fear malpractice here in the U.S. as appropriate practice involves adequate review of history (and exam of the patient).
Furthermore, since this is a pay per visit system in the U.S., they also don’t want the accusation that they’re taking patients away from others.
This can only be a site where each of us as PWD voices his/her own experience. This site provides an absolutely great place.
Thanks, Manny. You’ve made many of our days.
I have a friend from an online game who is a ER doctor, he rarely will give advice. He would tell you what to expect from various testing and the few time he has given advice it was always started with a “Don’t hold me to this” comment and finished with a “Check with your Doctor”.
I think if a professional be they a Doctor, Nurse, CDE, whatever wanted to give advise they would have to say it was a guess and not a professional DX to cover there behind. I also agree that when they get home from work given medical advice is the last thing they want to do.(Kind of the same reason I don’t under stand why a guy would want to be a OB and feel even more sorry for their wives.) But I do think if they want to speak up they would be safe as long as it was stated as a “Could be this or this but check with your doctor.”
