As a user of the ping, i can honestly say, the layout and amount of button pushing is really no big deal. There are only three buttons i really ever use: UP, Down, and OK. There are only two other buttons, on the surface of the pump: a brightness adjuster button, and an "Audio Bolus" button. This button is a cool feature that I unfortunately never use. What happens is each time you press it, there is a small "beep", and every time you hear a beep, that means it is adding one more half-unit to your dose. Once you have counted the right amount of "beeps" that you need to correct, you wait a few seconds until there is another double-beep. This lets you know it is ready to bolus, you then have to press the button one more time to deliver the bolus. However, as a freshman in high school at 14 years old, i rarely bother to do this, especially in loud cafeterias. I just use the normal ezCarb bolus option. The average amount of time it takes me to dial up the carbs and deliver the dose for a 160 carb lunch (I admit it's high carb, but a Football player's got to eat :] ) is at most 10 to 20 seconds. Button pushing is the least of your worries when it comes to Type 1 Diabetes. I would push buttons all day if i knew it would keep me at an A1C of 6.0. If you get the Ping, you will love it compared to administering injections for every meal.
Thank u for you advice Izza! I really appreciate it!
You're welcome Eyleen, about the insertions, I missed that question.
I feel the insertions similar to the sudden prick of my lancet device. It's automated and sudden but I don't find them any more painful than that. Pain is minimal, instantaneous and then gone as sudden as it came.
The auto insertion once the pod is adhered allows me to use many more sites that I would normally need two hands for other insertion devices and couldn't use by myself. I love the auto insertion feature. I can change a pod in 2 and 1/2 minutes. Even done it in my tent in the middle of the night camping. It primes by itself and inserts by itself. I used a flash light for the change. No muss, no fuss. Really simple process, only a few steps that are very clear and concise.
THanks and i understand what ur saying i hope i get the ping!
