I’m new to this, so I’m just figuring out how to change my diet. Obviously sweets are out, but how do you factor everything else, are sweetners ok, I read the label on a box of bran flakes cereal and it was low in sugar bet hight in carbs, is this type of thing ok ?
Many of us cannot eat cereal at all. Yes, the carb count is what you should be looking at. My suggestion since you are new would be to find out what works and doesn’t work for your blood sugar, since we are all different. Try eating a satisfying serving of the cereal or whatever, then test two hours after you eat. If your blood sugar is too high than you know either that food doesn’t work, or you have to eat less of it. If you do this regularly for awhile you will begin to get an idea of what you can eat and keep your blood sugars where you want them. We all vary in terms of how many carbs we eat per day, but you have to figure out what works for you.
