Where are the pumpers?

Pump Model: Medtronic Paradigm 722
Since when you;ve been pumping: 1st time was on one from 12/2000 to 6/2002; 2nd time…July 2008
Overall experience: Love having it…But the CGM’s are a pain in the rear…but getting better
Would you recommend it to others: I would highly, just make sure you are ready to REALLY deal with your diabetes and getting tighter control…I am doing much better since being on a pump…

Hi All,

Been Diabetic for 17 years and going to start on the Medtronic Paradigm 722 on the 8 December 2008. Looking forward to it. Have talked about CGM’s and my educator suggests maybe starting that 1 month after starting the pump and possibly only using it from Monday to Friday??

Any comments or suggestions would be highly appreciated.!!!

Thanks

Pump model: One Touch Animas Ping
Pumping since: 5 days
Overall Experience: I’m still adjusting to the no syringe world and I like it so far. I love the accuracy that I get with my carb to insulin ratios etc. Its very percise.
Recommend: I recommend it to anyone who has good blood sugar checking habits. That is what kept me back from getting the pump. I check much more frequently now.

Pump model: Animas 2020 Have used the Minimed 508, 511, 512 and 515 pumps in the past.
Pumping since 2001
Overall experience: I cannot imagine not using it.
Would recommend it to others: Yes - I would and I do. I set my mother up with Minimed and she is now a pumper.

Congrats on deciding to get a pump. Its interesting how alot of people who’ve had diabetes for 10+ years get the pump later in life. I’ve had diabetes almost 16 years and just got the pump less than a week ago. My cousin has had type 1 diabetes 20 years and just got the pump last year. Yet, I know others who have had diabetes for 2-3 years who started pretty soon after getting diagnosed. What made you decide to finally get the pump?

Pump model: cozmo 1800.
Pumping since: 2002ish
Overall Experience: awesome for sure.
Recommend: I would recomment it, even though I have my moments where I want to throw it against the wall because the sites wont stick or something similar…lol.

Hi Manny.
I use the Medtronic Minimed 722
just started using it in Aug 2008
I love it. It’s much easier than giving myself shots several times a day
Yes I would recommend it. It was very easy to learn how to use.
My only disappointment is that the insurance companies will not cover
the sensor. My insurance company only allows me so many test strips a month
so the sensor would be a big help when I want to exercise or alert me to lows or highs. That way I would be
able to avoid any problems when it comes to the highs or lows.

-Pump model: Medtronic Minimed Paradigm 722
-Since when you’ve been pumping: I actually had a pump around 1981, then discontinued it use and began again in 1998 when I was pregnant with my 6th child
-Overall experience: I am a very unscheduled person regarding eating at certain times, so the pump has been fabulous for me!!
-Would you recommend it to others: I would but I would stress that you still have to count carbs and check your BG religiously. I didn’t realize the importance of this and thought that the pump would cover whatever I didn’t since I was getting a certain basal amount every hour. I now know the difference and I am struggling to change habits that I allowed to take over my life that are not conducive to a diabetic lifestyle.

Pump model: Medtronic Minimed 522 with CGM (MiniLink)
Since when you’ve been pumping: 1986 (yes, I was a very early pump user!)
Overall experience: I was T1 diabetic 10 years before I went on the pump, but I don’t remember that time!
Would I recommend to others: Pump is the best thing out there for T1 diabetes control right now (and has been for a very long time!!!) so I recommend the pump to anyone on MDI that hasn’t achieved < 7 H1C results.

Type: Medtronic Minimed 722
Since May 2007
Overall a GREAT experience
I would DEFINITELY recommend it to others!

-Pump model: Medtronic Minimed 722

-Since when you’ve been pumping: july 2007

-Overall experience: even though i have not figured it out yet need to get trained on is since i have had no training i would not get ride of it ever. it has made my life much easier i have two special needs kids and i also am an early childhood teacher i tell you the difference in my job is amazing.

-Would you recommend it to others: I would, though I would recommend that you get trained very well one it. it dose make life easier and once i get a rep out to train me ill put more on this.

Hi,
I use the Medtronic Minimed, I think 722
I am a pumper for 2 years now. I like the freedom of using the pump. I don’t get to eat regular at work and with the pump, I can go hours without problems. I know that is not the best thing to do, but I have no choice.
I am very insulin resistant. I don’t go low. My carb ratio for most meal is 4 with a sensitivity of 25. I still have trouble with highs, especially after 4 pm
Overall experience. I wouldn’t want to think of not using it.

Rainbow,
I have the same reaction whenever I go online. And I agree pumping is obnoxiously expensive regardless of insurance. Going online makes it seem like everyone pumps when the actual # is something around 20% pump in the US. Trading 21 shots every 3 days for one infusion site would be really nice. The good thing about shots is I have no doubt the insulin went in and I’m untethered.
The US needs to join the civilized world and universalize health care. If your immune system goes wacky then yeah I think the healthy should pay into a health care system that makes living with diabetes as comfortable as possible. T1 can hit anybody and when it does your life will never feel the same again. Before it happened to me I thought T1 was as simple as taking insulin and I had not a single clue how hard it is.

Please state:
-Pump model: Medtronic Minimed 722
-Since when you’ve been pumping: Nov 2008
-Overall experience: I cannot imagine not using it.
-Would you recommend it to others: Just my first week into the pump. A few hiccups along the way,…but couldn’t imagine how I managed without it for so long.

I’m Officially a pumper!

-Pump model: Animas Ping.
-Since when you’ve been pumping: one week exactly
-Overall experience: So far it’s been a bit bumpy, but well worth the transition.
-Would you recommend it to others: I would. I had a few issues getting used to being tethered, but the flexibility is well worth it

-Pump Model : Medtronic MiniMed Paradigm 712 (I am trading someone their 712 for my 722. I cannot use the cgms feature because I have too little body fat to support the sensors length. He needs the 722 for cgms and cannot afford a new one. So a transfer is in order. I wanted purple anyways and his is purple and mine is black. Bye bye grey skies hello purple (I loved that happy days theme).)
-Pump Colour : Purple
-Since When Have I Been Pumping : March 7 1985
-Pumps I’ve Had : MiniMed 502A, MiniMed 504, MiniMed 506, MiniMed 507, MiniMed 507C, MiniMed 508, MiniMed 511, MiniMed 512, MiniMed 712, MiniMed 722, Animas IR1200, Deltec Cozmo 1700.
-Colours Of Each Pump Listed Above In Same Order As Listed Above : Grey, Grey, Grey, White, Blue, Blue and Green, Blue, Blue, Purple, Smoke, Silver, Slate Grey and Ice Blue.
Overall Experience : MiniMed and Animas are nearly tied for first place in terms of likeness of the device, easy programming, size of pump, and features offered. The Cozmo was shaped much differently, won’t fit too well in my clothing pockets, was too bulky, and to top it off much to hard to program, and I’m a tech junkie!
Otherwise I cannot live without my pump. It is everything to me.
-Would I Recommend It To Others : Only to those willing to take on the responsibility of proper pump management techniques and making sure you check your sugar at least 6 times per day. The 4 they tell you is just rudimentary checks. The more often you check the better off you’ll be. Pumping is a big thing to take on but it will change your health and life forever.

Hi my name is Denise, I started on my insulin pump the week of Thanksgiving this year.
-Onmipod
-11/08
-I really like it, less hassle and better control, the smaller increments lets me have tighter control.
-Yes, my niece has the animas pump and she is always fiddling around trying to keep it on her clothes, the omnipod is much more discreet.

Pump Model: Mini Med Paradigm
Pumping since 1991
Can not imagine life without a pump.
Would higly reccommend a pump.

Pump Model: OmniPod
Pumping since Jan 2008
overall experience: I love it, had a few pod failures but not enough to switch back to Animas or other pumps with tubing.

I used an Animas pump for 4 years and would never go back to shots.
I recommend everyone to get a pump and the one to choose is up to them, not all pumps are for everyone. I love the freedom of no tubing. I would flip if I didn’t have my pump.

I have tighter control, my A1c level is down from 9 to 7.2 and working on getting lower.

I recommend everyone have a pump over taking shots several times a day.
