Why are control solutions listed 'use only with ---"

I think I used a Control Solution once or twice over 20 years ago. I was planning to get a Control Solution as a test on ‘expired’ strips for 2 different type meters. ATT my control is occasionally testing expired against non-expired with 6 month expired comparing as good as expected.
It seems to me that if Control Solutions provide good check for 1 type of test strips &/or meter they should provide good check for ANY strips/meters. After all, a controlled result of 80 should result in 80 on any other type strips/meters. Am I wrong? How?
Any suggested ‘universal’ Control Solution??

Each brand of meter and strip uses a technology that is proprietary to the maker, and the control solution is chemically formulated for its own brand of strip. It’s a mistake to think of them as interchangeable. They’re no more interchangeable than the strips themselves, or, say, jet fuel and gasoline. They’re just different. You wouldn’t put diesel fuel in your Camry and you won’t get a correct result using control solution X on a strip that is formulated to react to solution Y.

Thanks David - Though it seems to me that strips that accurately measure ANY type blood SHOULD react the same to identical chemical mixtures.

It might make sense in the abstract to have them all interchangeable . . . but then the manufacturers couldn’t force you to pay their price for their stuff. As Deep Throat was supposed to have told Woodward and Bernstein, “Follow the money” and motives become pretty clear.
