Winners of the 2010 TuDiabetes Awards: take a moment to congratulate them!

Congratulations, winners. We’ve all been the beneficiaries of your input. Now we start a whole new year…

Thanks for all that you do.

This whole "Awards" thing blows me away ... well at least it would if I lost a few pounds! But I had never heard of these awards until a week ago and when I read about the winners from 2009, I was proud to say I know most of them - at least in passing. We all spy on one another here ... it's that warm fuzzy spied-on feeling ;-) However, I didn't feel I knew enough people well enough to vote appropriately.... but I tried! So being voted myself is an honest-ta-goodness shocker, truly. I'm relatively new here and haven't had time to effect any real damage yet!

I've been told I have a "bizarre" sense of humour and I do try to utilize it whenever I can. It saves me from some really embarrassing dilemma and often lands me in even deeper water! My Dad gave me this comedy disease and he's the one who used to tell me "You should be on stage" and then he'd quickly add "There's one leaving in 20 minutes!" For you under 60 types, stages were (also) old coaches used to transport people back in the wild wild west.

Since Dad passed on almost exactly a decade ago, my family has been fairly disjointed. In fact I haven't seen my mother in about 10 years and she turns 90 today... that's why you are all celebrating, ya know... my mother's birthday! And I have a little story about her that might explain a lot about the way my warped little mind works....

Several years ago, when me mither was a youngish 70 something years of age, I worked a gruelling shift on Senior's Day at the local fall fair. I worked in the H&R Block booth and the seniors all seemed to be having a bad day, and blaming me for the government taxation laws! As my family had a joke for everything, I tried my best to get a smile out of these snarling seniors but none was to be had. They didn't even crack a mini grin when I asked if they were going bungee jumping - the newest feature event at the fair - and probably not intended for people with walkers!
"Noooo!" they growled angrily, like I was serious about my query.
That night I got home and phoned my mom and told her about my day with all the grumpy grannies and grampas. I told her how much I appreciated her sense of humour and her willingness to laugh and to tell a joke. I told her I enjoyed her company and how happy I was to have grown up in such a 'funny' household. Most of all, I reiterated more than once, that I really truly admired her and felt blessed to have such a great mom.
She listened to my entire tirade in silence and, when I stopped for a breath, there was a bit of a pause before she responded.
<<< pause >>>
"Who is this?" she asked.
She got me again!!
So you see, my friends, this nutty acorn didn't fall that far from the mighty oak! Thanks for being here and being my friends and special congratulations to everyone who was nominated and/or won those other 'serious' categories! You people really do the hard work around here and I'm one of the many who appreciates your efforts!

Great story about the grumpy grannies & your mom's response. Had me laughing. Thanks for even more smiles!

Thank you all for voting me for the second time. I am the happiest geek in Germany. I am also happy that some of my favourites have also been recognized and awarded by this community. Congratulations to all the winners. I wish you all a very good and healthy new year 2011 - maybe with less snow ;-)

Gerri.... Fortunately for you, your years of poking sharp implements in your fingertips has pretty much eliminated any leftover peanut butter prints. I checked (somebody had to test the quality!)... and there were just a bunch of nubby little generic finger holes - coulda been anybody - even Manny! So if you would just keep quiet about your little "confessions", ain't nobody gonna be the wiser!

Have you ever considered joining PEA? (Peanutbutter Eaters Anonymous) I understand they're currently accepting new members. I heard they meet every Tuesday afternoon at Skippy's House. BYOB (Butter Your Own Bread)

LOL!

Congratulations everyone! Well deserved for each of you!

Terry

Congrats to ALL - fabulous, just fabulous! About the second thing I say to any fellow PWD is, do you now about TuDiabetes? All of you are great ambassadors for this great community.
