Worried about my feet and fingers going numb

Damon:

Neuropathy is not reversible although there are drugs that can ease the pain depending on the severity. There ARE some ways you can avoid neuropathy (like keeping under good control), but have to start before you develop the symptoms. Lyrica and Cymbalta are two that I recall.

Damon:

I go to a hand surgeon. One of the finest in this part of the country. Good Luck to you.

Aggelikki:

The first step in check out nerves is a neurologist. They more commonly perform EMGs (nerve conducttion test) and then tell you if there is a blockage and (unless they are neurosurgeons) refer you to a hand specialist or such other specialist he sees fit.

Lois, Neuropathy IS reversible when it is in the early stages. Many Diabetics have reversed it including myself by getting Better control of blood sugars . Richard reversed his also by getting on a pump. My older Brother had Neuropathy in his toe(s) first, his feet eventually went totally numb then it went up his legs because he didn’t look after his Diabetes. He complained a lot of the pain. He finally agreed to go to my Endo. He had Neuropathy but it was too far gone.

When my toe went numb, then part of the sole of my foot, plus the pain at night, I remembered what my Brother had gone through. I wasn’t going to go down that road. I am only on Insulin/diet and exercise for Diabetes. My feet and toes are pain and numbness free again.

Well, you can’t win for losing! No matter what I say or do lately, there is always someone or something to tell me I’m all wet. I give! Too tired to stand by what an endo told me.

Lois

Oh Lois! You’re not wet. Keep in mind, many of the People on here and on other Diabetes Communities that have proven their Drs. and Endo’s wrong in different ways. Their Patients cannot hope to get Better or even try to when their Endo’s BOOK tells them that they can’t. Sadly my Aunt and my older Brother went through the same complications and gave up because they didn’t know they could fight it in the first stages. Actually, I didn’t know it at that time either but their experiences sure motivated me. I hope that you are feeling Better Lois.

Umm…I forgot to add. It’s Best to get motivated NOW to get our sugars in a decent range before complications occur for us. It is harder after the fact, as you can imagine or have already experienced.
