Huckleberries

Continuing the discussion from Word Association Game:

They’re small dark berries much prized here in the mountain west…by bears as well as humans!

…just don’t like the idea of competing with bears for the delicacy! We don’t get too many berries here in Perth, Western Australia. Too warm for many but strawberries. In the south where it is cooler they grow blueberries. Raspberries come in a teeny tiny box and cost $9 per box, scandalous, but I can’t resist.

Folks here zealously guard their berrying locations and pass them along to the next generation. The berries are very small and are difficult to collect–many use a specialized berry “rake”–and a half-pint cost $4 or $5 last summer. If someone gives you a jar of home-made huckleberry jam, you know he/she really likes you! :grinning:
