ARE YOU A DIABETES DIFFERENCE MAKER? APPLY FOR FUNDING!
To support individuals who are making a difference in their community of those who live with diabetes, Beyond Type 1 and Abbott have partnered for the second year in a row to provide grant funding for TWO Diabetes Difference Makers.
Two (2) applicants will be chosen and awarded up to $5000. Recipients will be carefully selected based on the criteria below, with a keen focus on providing funds to those who can continue to make a positive impact on their community.
Who is a Diabetes Difference Maker? Examples of initiatives might include selling jewelry and donating profits, starting a small nonprofit, organizing events for others with diabetes, and more. Applications are open now, apply HERE.
*APPLICATIONS WILL BE OPEN FOR FOUR WEEKS, FROM JANUARY 12TH TO FEBRUARY 9TH. APPLICANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY FEBRUARY 18TH.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must currently live with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes OR care or do work on behalf of someone who does
- Must be contributing to their community meaningfully and in service of others
- Examples include: starting an organization benefiting people with diabetes; making and selling bracelets + donating profits
- Must provide explanation of current work (in video or written form)
- Must provide short explanation of what $5000 will be used for
- Must provide photos or other supporting documentation chronicling the work, either already completed or planned
- Must live within the United States
- Must be 18 or older
- Must not be requesting support for a for-profit, healthcare, religious or government entity
- Must not be a Healthcare Professional, Government Official, or beneficiary of a federal healthcare program such as Medicare or Medicaid.
Applicants who meet ALL initial eligibility criteria will then be evaluated for potential for impact, taking into account each of the following:
- Clarity: How explicit or informative is the applicant’s explanation of the intended use of the grant funds?
- Longevity: How significant is the potential for helping more people going forward?
- Mission-Oriented: How impactful is the work being done on the lives of others with diabetes?
- Quantity: Can the work already done/currently being done/to be done be quantified? (i.e. Can the applicant provide a metric for people already served/impacted or who will be served/impacted?)
- Scope: Related to the project budget the applicant has provided, how impactful would this grant be? (i.e. We would prioritize an applicant who can get a great deal done with this money vs someone who needs $5,000 to begin a project)
Beyond Type 1 will conduct reviews of all applicants. Applications will be reviewed using a grading rubric based on the above criteria. Questions? Email us at hello@beyondtype1.org!
Conditions of Funds: Each ‘grantee’ will be required to provide payment details to Beyond Type 1 in advance of receipt of funds. Beyond Type 1 can issue the grant to an individual, to a related 501c3, or directly to a vendor who has hard costs associated with the funded project; Beyond Type 1 will work with the grantee to identify the preferred mechanism for payment. In certain instances, the grant could be considered taxable income to the grantee and we advise each recipient to check with their tax advisor regarding their specific circumstances.
