Wednesday marked 3 months of Brennan having diabetes. These 3 months have been very difficult adjusting to the fact that I now have 2 kids with diabetes. Brennan is doing a lot better handling his diabetes. He has taken an interest in checking his own blood sugar. He throws a fit if I try to check it for him. I have seen a bigger bond between Griffin and Brennan since now they both have diabetes. They were always close but now they seem so much closer. Griffin is always there to help his brother and talk him through injections. Brennan is doing great in school he is very open about it he tells everyone he has diabetes and explains what it is. He always wants to how his classmates ow he checks his blood sugar.I can remember back in October when he was diagnosed he was very standoffish and didn't want anyone to know he had diabetes. Every blood sugar check and injection was a battle. I am so proud of the way he is handling this. I guess it helps that he already new what diabetes was before he was diagnosed since his brother Griffin has had it for almost 5 years now. I am fighting with the insurance company right now to get him on a pump and CGM like his brother. He has his first endo visit and A1C since diagnosis next month. I know a lot of you were probably curious about how he was doing so I thought I would update. I have been very busy with basketball and swim season starting. It seems every weekend one of the kids has a game or event. I will try to update more often.
wow! im glad to hear he is adjusting well. you must have to be so organised!
what a wonderful blog thank you for sharing. When children take responsibility for their blood sugar it is such a blessing.
