50 years have come and gone

Congratulations on a job well done!!! You’ve obviously taken great care of yourself and shown a lot of discipline over the years. You certainly don’t look like you are much over 30 or 40!!!

Congratulations! Hope you have a long time to go! I am 78 and have had TD1 for 65 years. I get a laugh over people getting medals for that.

I love hearing from all of you with congratulations! And I am so thrilled to hear how many of us have lived such happy, healthy and long lives. All of you who are well past 60 are my new role models. Hoping I can make it to 60! That is my next goal! Thanks for all the kind words and love and I share it back to all of you!

Does anyone know the longest a person has lived with type 1?
I’m thinking 60 or so is the most I’ve actually ever heard a person state in real life.

In any case I always thought type 1 people usually lived an average life span, however blind and missing limbs and on dialysis.
That was the image I have in my head from over the years but I don’t actually know the truth of it.

Richard, a member here has had it for at least 70 yrs. Dr Bernstein is in his 80’s and was diagnosed in his teens. He is still practicing medicine. I have had it for 61 yrs and still ride 10 miles daily on my exercise bike and live a normal life. There are lots of us around. The image in your head is not true anymore.

@Richard157 hit 75 years this year.

Joslin 75 Year Medal

Another long time member, diagnosed in 1936, made it to 81 years.

Amazing !!!

@Sally7, congratulations on reaching 50 years! I can certainly identify with your post. I was not expected to live beyond my teen years when I was diagnosed in 1945. You look great and healthy in your picture.
Keep on doing what you are doing, and you can complete the 75 year goal in 2045.

I just read about a man who got a medal from Joslin clinic for living 80 years with diabetes! Maybe we’ll be the next ones? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
