A funny thing happened on the way to the (TuD) forum

So I’m not even sure now how I found my way to TuD, but I’m sure glad I did! I was about 7 months out from diagnosis and still reeling from the shock and feeling depressed and alone. There’s no in-person support group in my town for new Type 1s and my family and friends, while supportive, didn’t really know how to help. My PCP, also supportive, wasn’t able to give me the managing-day-to-day kind of help I needed. I was having trouble with exercise and lows, still experiencing post-meal spikes, and felt reluctant to participate in activities I formerly enjoyed (like going on bird surveys and bike riding). I really appreciated the friendly interaction on TuD and the willingness of other members to answer questions with examples from their own lives. (And I got quickly addicted to the Word Association Game, too!). Anyway, after an eventful year, I now see that I am getting better at managing this “insane disease” and can even help answer somebody else’s question! What a wonderful thing, to give back to TuD members who have been so kind and helpful to me! :smiley_cat:
